So… This TM states boilers have no counter. I’m not sure if the creator was aware, but base boiler has 2x zoom, one directional, a 5 second wind-up for its boil ability, and must stay stationary. It has no explosive resist and takes 200-300% damage from fire.
Boiler can sacrifice utility and med-ish combat ability of base to take specialized trapper for 8x zoom, but still outranged by sniper.
Meaning a few things: Sniper will ALWAYS be able to counter a boiler (incend sniper bullet on boiler has killed me MANY TIMES). Sniper will, most of the time, be able to see a boiler that cannot see it.
Also, a brief scenario of me with new sniper rifle TM…
Me, base boiler, runs out to gas since no doors or walls where I’m at.
Check for Sadar, GL, and pyro, all of who will kill me pretty much guaranteed. None. Dont check for sniper because I have nothing I can do about it aside from ‘duck and cover’.
I come up from the side after scoping out sight ranges of my target. No one’s paying attention. I start my 5 second skill use with a x2 zoom range.
I hope I dont get hit by:
Fire (even base fire kills me if i’m not at full health since im currently alone- I dont have time to resist 2x to smother it unless I’m full health since its like a 10 second ordeal taking 300% tick damage)
Grenade: I have no explosion resist and the stun means I’m half dead by the time I get up to yeet off to nearest door.
Sadar: instadeath.
Pyro: lmao anything this dude hits me with will kill me if im alone.
Sniper: immediate incend fire pinging over and over means anything I do is basically impossible without doors or walls or cover.
My 5 second gas is 2 secs into casting. I glow in the dark, so 2 marines behind cades see me (since 2x directional zoom is, well, not that far). Thankfully, someone decided boilers should have SOME armor. so I prepare to endure 3 seconds of bullets. Should be at least 50% health.
I get gas off. Marines run. None of them take THAT significant of damage as no direct hits, but I ping health. I scamper off at 80% health, which is higher than expected. I start running to cover, relieved nothing terrible happened.
I DIE. Even if i were behind cover, I’d still be dead, apparently. Yall gone and gave a sniper the ability to 80% damage something from across the screen, behind walls, and it takes one second longer than the 2x zoom 5s boiler cast?
Why do you hate boilers? If this is gonna be the anti boiler spec, can we get some explosion resist and not be killed by literally flaming farts? I’d be happy if we had literally anything to beef us up against literally any of the specs.
Or give me sniper’s zoom so I can 10x shoot balls across the screen?
Or take away base sniper’s incend that literally makes me abandon what im doing or die
Or give me an ability that does 80% of a humans health from 10x away. While you’re at it, make me reviveable if I die. Hell, I’d love any of that. I get direct globs off frequently, which I have to do from 2x distance, projecting a guesstimate 5 seconds into the future at where dude will be, and that only does 100 damage.
How about making ANY of my burn damage cause some/any kind of internal injuries, so 100% of the time I’m not just killing someone for a medic to insta kelo revive.
Maybe trappers shouldn’t be limited to 1 square/second? This is just death for any xeno not at full health, but I cant even try to trade against an effective sniper with this gun now as trapper. I literally move 1 tile per second unless I’m hit and get my brief move speed boost.
