Why don't we want new playtime medals and xeno ages?

I really wanted to overhaul the playtime award system with new sprites, new descriptions and additional milestones for the oldest and most dedicated players but it seems like this isn’t wanted?

This doesnt refer to everyone, but elitism is certainly a factor, I think. People will more readily go along with what a plat medal RFN says than one with a silver one. It’s FAR worse for xenos, though, since their veterancy is literally baked into their names and shows on their UI.

Now, obviously veteran players are „better“ and generally have good game sense, but it can be pretty sobering for new players to just be sidelined by such people.

I like the idea of more veterancy rewards but I know others don’t like it.

Making playtime “medals” more prominent with descriptions or different sprites kinda feels to me like people will just want to grind and get the medal or ignore people without medals and focus more on “This guy has no medal as SL, so why should I follow him.”

I don’t like it even now, and end round “facts” but that’s another discussion.

This. I think all in-game showcase of playtime should be removed personally. It’s something you can still look at as right now, but no way to showcase it in an ongoing round.

Personally I’ve had people think I am stupid because I have playtime medals off but think they’re cool to an extent. Some of the descriptions are a bit LARP-tier though, the platinum medal being ‘hand delivered by a USCMC general’ is dumb IMO.

Playtime rewards and medals are awesome though, to be honest, outside of the times where it causes a bit of grief (which is rare enough to not matter), but it’s also a bit hard to think of a milestone and ‘cut off point’ in terms of hours. 300? 500? 1000?

Have you ever been in the discord? Every debate turns into a flex argument for megadoodoo dweeb turbo-nerds to post that they have 400 hours on a single caste so them killing every cap in order to get the end of round snowflake shout-out is justified

My plan was to make them less prominent but more diverse, I think xenos having it on their name is silly and it should probably by downgraded to a description or something lesser

I have been perma banned off the discord for a long time hahaha

I wouldnt mind removing the end of round stats, I think if anything it should just give you the option of viewing your personal stats at the end. Its cool to see but flexing by FFing or killing caps is silly

Having cool medals be for non-hours things would be cool. Hard to code but like little challenge things.

Also gold medal looks 10x better than plat medals but I can no longer get gold medal it’s a fucking travesty

Honestly I was thinking a 500 and a 1000. 1000 realistically should be the maximum

The medal for 1000 should be an admin tracing your IP and contacting your local mental institution to come collect you

While I agree with the people wanting to remove playtime medals on the point of “1000 hour researcher taking over and essentially not involving the other “baldie” (less than 1000 hours) in his every in-game chemical within 30 minutes powergame”, there should still be a way to recognize a player being new (new means, not experienced enough to learn the role, instead of enough to be a member of every metagame voicechat) so people can actually teach them. The rifleman/MP/CT/MT/whatever system works good enough but I don’t expect every role to get a “junior”-rank, so there would need to be a new system for that.

This is what I like about medals, when I see a no medal or bronze medal person I can help. The amount of times I’ve taught a new engi how to build a FOB just because I could see their medal is unreal

Eh, CM has been around for what… 8, 9, 10 years? I’ve seen people who have 2k on their main

I love you

In all honesty we should remove anything above the bronze medal and completely remove the ingrained “elder” etc. xeno prefixes so that maybe this game can stop being such an hour fest of “I’m better because I don’t touch grass!!”

Balance discussion is impossible in chatroom format imo.

I’m in a few discords for development on other games, the best I’ve seen forces a 5+ minute cooldown between responses in the balance channel to try and manage it better (alongside active and excellent moderators), but it’s still a failure compared to forums; people are more rude, and the arguments devolve to “git gud”, “skill issue”, and “cope” a lot faster, especially without sensible moderation that frowns on people posting ‘arguments’ like that. Not even the pseudo forums discord now has have worked any differently.

I think the issue stems mostly from chatrooms being more personal. It’s akin to a conversation between 2-5 people, whereas a forum is more like someone getting up in front of a room of hundreds to say their thing. There’s a big difference in who’s engaged in the discussion, how they’re engaged, and how many are engaged. If you don’t live/eat/shit/breathe discord you won’t see 99% of the discussions on anything at all, and if there’s a disagreement it rapidly turns into personal shitflinging rather than being audience oriented.

Personally as a Research main, i find Plat researchers to either be unhinged on the side of insane, or just a general detriment wanting to watch the entire world burn (and then theres the outlier of Jean, the pacifist).
