This is not about the rule I broke. I think NessiePendragon should not be appealing bans.
While a permanent ban is a serious deterrent, it removes a potentially dedicated player forever for a single mistake. This feels disproportionate to the offense for a first-timer. Nessie’s way of instantly dismissing any apology or willingness to improve just discourages honest players, with hours of playtime, from even trying to appeal, leading to resentment and feelings of being unjustly targeted, which is what I felt here. Nessie pretty much treats a dedicated, apologetic player exactly the same as a known griefer who tries to evade a temporary ban. It fails to account for intent, and severity.
It seems they’re a part of the head staff, and probably friends with all of the other head staff, so this report will probably go into the ether just like my account, but it would feel wrong to not say something about it, in order to speak for the hundreds of people who decided not to speak out about Nessie’s unyielding, zero-tolerance moderation style, which again, should not be appealing bans.
