Why do you wish to become a Fax Responder?
I’ve done a fair amount of hours playing as CL, CC, Bodyguard, etc. and sent a lot of faxes with little expectation of getting a response. I’d like to give opportunities playing these roles, which often can feel like they lack a sense of purpose or direction, to feel involved and not irrelevant.
What do you consider the purpose of this role?
There are several purposes, while the obvious one is giving players in fax-centric roles something to do, it also makes it so admins/mods don’t always have to be involved in this sort of thing, many of them are involved in rounds as their own characters, and this will make it so they can concentrate on that. I’ll admit I’m not really sure what happens on their end of the client when a fax is sent and they’re currently in game, but I imagine it’s somewhere between difficult and impossible to respond to. Players playing can benefit from objectives like taking pictures of/investigating specific places on the colony, recovering something like the blackbox, attempting to get a character to sign an NDA or similar paperwork, or just give advice and support to newer players that are in those roles. I know when I was new as CL, it felt incredibly alone, and like everyone was against me. I think that problem is largely mitigated by the bodyguard, but it’s still always a great feeling to get a fax back. A CL who’s communicating back and forth with corporate, and feels like someone is listening is a lot less likely to do something antagonistic/unwise like… grow a drone in their closet.
When would you consider it appropriate to use your phone?
I cannot think of a time it would be appropriate and would love some examples of it to be honest. It really seems like it is out line with intention of the FR role, the only time I’ve seen a fax responder make a phone call was after he instructed me to ‘put the neomorph corpse in a secure room’ and then I (the CL) dragged it to the ares core, as it’s the most secure part of the ship, then the core lockdown went off, and I emailed the fax responder for help. They called me and were ‘why are you like this? this isn’t what we meant at all.’

If playing WY Responder, what objectives do you consider within your power to give the CL?
Ask the ACO to sign an affidavit of responsibility, suggest they inspire some marines to bring them the colony black box, or perhaps recover a employee body from the surface. Get a survivor they told us about to sign an NDA, or be recruited depending on their attitude. Push a new product we’d like the Almayer to consider acquiring for the troops. Do an interview with the CC about the situation down on the planet, and dissuade people that we had ANYTHING to do with it.
I should also clarify objectives should not include: Turning the CO into a synth, replacing his bodyguard’s limbs with robotics, or kidnapping the QM.
If playing Press Responder, what objectives do you consider within your power to give the CC?
First I would find out what style of media the Correspondent is working on, If they’re on photography I might ask them to get pictures of the ship’s Officer staff, video I might ask them to do some video interviews. If it’s written news, I may ask them to interview a specific member of the crew, or do a general interview of a specific department. If someone is a military combat correspondent, I’d consider assigning them to chronicle a specific squad, or squad role for the operation. I feel like CC is a very versatile (although not particularly powerful) role, and taking some time to figure out how it seems like the player is doing their CC seems optimal for trying to give them an assignment they might find interesting.

Final note at the end, I realize my playtimes aren’t quiiiiite there for a Corporate Responder, I’m going to be working on that more this week, I just wanted to get this step put together now.
