bravo being in this image making me laugh so hard as if their Spec/SG stayed at FOB and didnt just frontline hahaha
true nobody’s gonna miss those guys, but WE LIKED OUR SG AND SPEC
this is genuinely the funniest post i’ve ever seen we was crying laughing bro
Shit you not, made a thread about removing the sharp as a specialist for being a waste of a slot, and one of the reasons someone said in support of it is, “I would feel bad because someone worked really hard on it even if their idea wasn’t good” . We as a community should support Devs and maintainers because the game wouldn’t be where it is today with out them, but that doesn’t mean they should get a pass on if an idea is no good.
Fireteams weren’t taken seriously by just about anyone. Oh I have a funny “1”, or “2” next to my character, what a nothing burger. Fireteams meant that orders for both of them and the main squad who isn’t in one had to be in the same radio channel, so now about 2/3 of radio messages you decide to read isn’t even directed to you. The only good that came from fireteams was making Sniper/SADAR a leader of one and his spotter/loader as the only other member so they can track eachother easly. You could do the same with medics, but I haven’t seen this used at all.
On the surface you might find it contradicting itself, but you have to imagine CM players as a heard of sheep. If you give them total freedom, they mostly just run to the perceived most direct route to reward, which falls into like 3 categories:
- Ungaball on the frontlines
- “Flanking”/backlining
- FoB/Comms
But if you restrict and funnel them a bit, present them with a small maze etc, they suddently act more varied way in which you can control more.
I don’t know the details, but I heard that there’s going to be “specializations” supposedly for the squads that have been cut down. If these specializations are something cool, like a squad gets an armored vehicle or something, then it might be fun and lead to more actual fun play, then I could see myself enjoying it even though I’ll miss Charlie squad as it was. Even then, the round always ends with both sides converging on 1 point, either the xenos get pushed back into their cave/no OB zone, or marines get pushed back to the LZ and then almayer. Even with extra small squads, you’re going to resort to deathballing pretty quick.
A part of what makes marine fun is that you’re not just a faceless bug, you’ve got a character with a backstory and as much personality that you want to endow them with. Shuffling them around between other squads is going to make the game feel more like most people have the random name/body settings on every round. This is a part of the reason that ERT squads fall apart so fast, we don’t have character slots dedicated to the ERT roles, so no one knows each other or what they can expect from each other.
ASS on low pop actually makes the Marine force incredibly formidable. Despite it buffing the effective warfare of the marine and that being bad for Xenos, I really think it’s a decent improvement.
in the few rounds of testing we had during the last lowpop cycle, marines were locked in like crazy. and when pop actually hits a low point (sub 60 and whatever), ass isn’t even enabled at that point because kilo and oscar aren’t activated
like this is what the player distribution looks like
i think there has certainly been a lot of people crying wolf in regards to how a.s.s might affect lowpop rounds but there is, as far as i’ve seen, zero evidence to suggest that it might be an issue (bugs and stuff aside)
I was just shocked last night we captured eight. Permad 10 or so. Then on the second attack it was like Marines had a huge morale boost from just being in small squads and good cohesion. I don’t remember any bugs other than my Xeno Queen ass dying. Can we stop that bug from happening? Xeno Queen death? Cause then ASS will be Tits

The small unit cohesion makes me want to roll SL.
The RP I just got from being in these smaller fixed size squads is miles better to anything charlie has been providing before.
Charlie’s new reduced size is a boon if you truly believe charlie to be the more “RP squad”.
If you are nothing without specs and SGs, maybe you do not deserve them!!
I hereby declare all further balance patches to the ASS system have to be other names of a crude humor, for the funny.
Honestly, between how multi-z has been done, and how intel points went from being designed to be an alternative thing not related to the combat itself to nuke points, I can’t help but think that the A.S.S. system is going to be half assed. I can’t help but think instead of the whole A.S.S., they’re going to give us a one cheek solution.
you do not wanna see what the other cheek looks like trust me
Honestly? From the few rounds i’ve played with ASS, it isn’t that bad, as a normal squadie the existence of a spec or SG shouldn’t even affect you at all. Main problem I see is the limited squad slots forcing people into other squads they don’t want to be in. ( Maybe letting people transfer into the Support squads could help? )
Plus.. I kinda like RPing as a disgruntled, gutted squad lamenting about the good ol’ days.
it’s pretty nice to see people’s opinions shift as they start to explore the system, have the interactions, and find ways to enjoy it. i think we’ve still got a lot of improvements to make but i am very thankful to have a good handful of awesome SLs and CO players that are championing the system and bringing folks around. this wave of tests is a lot more promising to us than before
from a delta perspective, ASS has been great since we twice the amount of everything, so once Alpha and Delta get on one push and go for it, we ball out and win, as for the support squads, they just don’t have anything to do, most of the time, they end up merging with the Alpha Delta push, or mess around doing comms. I’ve been trying to play SL for the support squads on high pop to get a more unbiased but I haven’t been impressed by the experience.
It’s just that Charlie is in a weird transitional state with ASS, with it’s role being fundamentally changed. Kilo and Oscar don’t have the same problem since they’re new ( But I’ll be damned if fucking tango squad ever replaces charlie )
Charlie’s now a weird mishmash of people who want to front and those that want to do small squad tactics, and that’s really something that only time can fix. Again, it’s just the limited squad slots keeping me on the fence from seeing ASS as an overall improvement to the game.
makes you wonder
Maybe ASS wasn’t ass but actually badass?
