Contracts Botany

The goal of this guide is to give a simple and effective guide to complete research botany. Once you complete the initial setup it is low maintenance making multitasking easier.

The new main objective of research Botany is to grow a variety of “Hydroponics Chemicals” that provide research credits when scanned and reagents for very valuable Hard Contracts. The Botanist aims to have all the hydro chems grown and in ample supply. The 10 Hydro Chems and the 9 plants they mutate from are:

  1. Atropine from Poppies (EGN 7, INV 1, NRT 0.5)

  2. Psoralen from Cabbages (CRG 6)

  3. Coniine from Carrots (SDT 5)

  4. Phenol from Carrots (INV 1, NRT 5)

  5. Digoxin from Messa’s Tears (CDP 3, FLF 1)

  6. Zygacine from Reshi (CDT 3)

  7. Amatoxin from Reshi (TOX 1)

  8. Thymol from death/poison berries (APS 0.5)

  9. Urusiol from Deathnettles (ALG 6, CRS 3)

  10. Cyanide from Poison Apples (HPX 4, SDT1)

Starting Rollout

If you are familiar with botany the pictures and their captions are sufficient to plant a simplified and minimal work botany spread. The text is for further information.

First we need some starting chems:

  • In a Bluespace beaker Pour a bottle of dylovene into it and add 60u Chlorine, 60u Nitrogen, and 120u Water. This makes Alkisine which forces plants to mutate into a new species, since it has Neuropeutic. The water is just to dilute it so it lasts longer.

  • Then fill the other bluespace beaker with 300u Radium, our plant mutator

  • Fill a beaker with Iron, has Hemogenic which lets us clip more seeds from plants

  • Fill a beaker with Mercury, has Neurotoxic 4 which permanently stops that plant from mutating into a new species. Does not carry over into seeds.

We need our tools, they are found on the rack next to the water tank or inside the Botany Locker:

  • Seed Clippers. When used on a plant clips a seed from it. Wirecutters also work. Plants can be clipped 1-3 times before needing a small dose of Iron to be clipped again. Get in the habit of planting a seed and immediately clipping it to plant more or save an unmodified seed.

  • Gene Disks. Can have plant genes imprinted into them using the Lysis-Isolation Centrifuge and imprint those genes onto other plants using the Bioballistic Delivery System

  • Hacking Tools. Screwdriver and Security Access Tuner. Screwdriver the seed vendor, use Tuner to pulse Inventory, Screwdriver to close the panel. Now you can vend contraband seeds

  • Plant analyzer. Shows you plant genetics, used on plants and seeds. Future seeds from the plant will inherit every stat displayed.

  • Plant Bag. Mass collects and dumps fruits. Only use on fruit piles/plants or dump its contents. Do not use from belt or pockets. Do not open and try to take stuff out from it, just dump it out. This bag is glitchy but really useful for putting stuff into the grinder.

  • Shovel. Uproots plants. Find more in kitchen hydro or East of NE fuel pumps

  • Mini Hoe. Removes Weeds. Find more in kitchen hydro or East of NE fuel pumps

First lets get our plants that require a species mutation.

  • Apples to Mutant Apples

  • Berries to Death or Poison Berries

  • Nettles to Death Nettles

Berries and Apples can mutate into other types so we plant three of those. Nettles and Chilis can only mutate into Death and Frost types.

Vend berry, apple, nettle, wheat, lime, and chili* seeds. Wheat and lime are for gene editing. Chilis are optional but Frost oil is useful. Plant following the below image. Use the seed clippers after planting to get a new seed and keep planting. Make sure to clip a spare seed for each type.

Then pour 10u of the Alki-Water mix into each tray. The Alkisine forces the next mutation to mutate the plant species. Then add 10u radium to each tray to trigger a mutation. Clip Mutant Apple, Death/Poison Berry, Death Nettle and Frost Chili seeds and save them for gene editing. Throw the non-mutated seeds into a trash pile. Use a plant analyzer and check that each still has “This plant can be Harvested Repeatedly”. Use the shovel and dig up all of these plants

Make Two piles next to the Bioballistic Delivery System following the below table.

Poppies Death Nettles
Reishi Mutant Apples
Messa’s Tears Frost Chilis
Death or Poison Berries

Insert a Gene Data Disk and Lime seed packet into the Lysis Isolation Centrifuge. Select “Products”. Then insert a new Data Disk and wheat seed packet into the Centrifuge. Select “Vigor”.

Place the Products Data Disk in the Bioballistic Delivery System. Insert one of the seeds listed below and apply the products gene to it, eject, and repeat for the rest.

Combine the lime products modified seeds with the “Wheat Vigor Only” seeds. Eject the Products disk, insert the Vigor disk, place the products disk in the cabinet, and modify all of the seeds. If a seed says corrupted: plant it, clip it, and modify that seed.

So what exactly did we do?

We made all of the plants repeat harvest, and optimized them for quick harvests. We did this with Lime products, and Wheat vigor.

Below is the important parts of a plant analyzer scan of Messa’s Tear.

  • Yield is 4, meaning 4 fruits per harvest. Yield_mod makes yield mostly irrelevant however

  • Maturation time, plant cycles until fully grown, 1 is best, 9 worst, but 0 also terrible

  • Production time, plant cycles in between harvests, 1 is best, 9 worst, but 0 also terrible. This stat allows for rapid harvests

  • Potency, scales amount of chems produced in fruits

  • Other Data does NOT have “This plant can be harvested repeatedly” one harvest and you have to replant

The products gene takes the chemicals found in the fruit, the potency, and the repeat harvest trait of the processed seed, and you can then apply those traits onto seeds.

Here we see Messa’s with lime products added. Lime’s potency and repeat harvest trait are now present, but the yield, maturation, and production times got worse.

Now we look at vigor, which transfers yield, maturation time, and production time. Ultimately all we care about is an ok yield and a production time of 1.

Finally we add wheat vigor to the lime products modified Messa’s Tear. Using Lime products and then wheat vigor will make any seed repeat harvest, and optimize it for fast harvests.

All of our seeds are prepared and now we can plant. I like this setup but you can drop chilis or a carrot seed. Its best if a single carrot plant has coniine and phenol so I improve my odds with more trays, plant clip seed and plant again. Plant all the plant types, clip a spare seed from each plant type. Place all the stock seeds in a pile.

Now the chemical treatment, by now you should get a full janitor buckets of radium and diethylamine.

  • Pour 10u of mercury onto the reishi, the neurotoxic 4 stops species mutation.

  • Pour 20u radium into each plant tray except chilis. Later whenever you feel like it add 10u doses of radium to each tray.

  • Pour 120u diethylamine onto mutant apples and poppies. Any plants with a yellow light get 10u diethylamine doses. Plants with a blinking red light have weeds or pests and need a mini-hoe. Blue light means water is needed.

Finally our plants are ready, harvest each into their own pile and check for botany chems.

  • If you have one, throw a fruit at the seed extractor for future seeding and pour 100u diethylamine onto the plant. Fertilizer increases the fruit per harvest

  • If the fruit does not have a botany chem check the total amount of chems in it

    • Less than 45u, add more radium and hope by next harvest it mutates the chem

    • More than 45u, dig it up and replant a stock seed, reclipping it, re-mutate. Fruits have a max capacity of 60u, once they reach it no new chems can be added

Grind and bottle all of the chemicals, cash in the rewards.

Make sure to get the grinder upgrade from the biomass printer machinery tab, its only 500 biomass and you start with 1000, only catch is you need Clearance 2 first.

As you improve your roll out try to work in planting poppies ASAP and mass farm some Atropine for the medics pre drop. All you need to do is network full bottles of atropine and announce it on medical comms. Beyond that frost peppers and frost oil make quick clot. 60u frost oil, 30u cryoxadone makes 16 pills that cure internal bleeding once they hit 0 C.

Regarding your Quick Quickclot? 60 frost oil, 30 cryoxadone (Dex, Oxygen, water 1:1:1)
Makes 16 Pills of QC.

So once you’ve got 120 Frost oil, you can make 4 bottles of 8pills QC.

Do you kill your Frost Chilli pant once you have enough frost oil? 6 ish bottles?

I’ll keep growing frost oil until the plant dies. with it 120u frost oil lets you make 4 pill bottles with 8 pills each. you can get 2-3 harvests before 20mins depending on luck. I like to make around 7 or so pill bottles.

Use turing to simplify the thing significantly. set up vial box with:

10u frost oil, 5u cryoxadone, 10u sugar, 30u iron. Spam the save button until frost oil says 60u, eject vial box. Bam each cycle itll fill 1 janibucket with 1 16 pill bottle mix of quickclot iron sugar. So stocking fridge with 1 bucket of cryox you have just fully automated the mixing process.

My only question is how do you avoid stunlocking yourself into a perpetual tunnel-vision grinding and plant-caring loop with crop overabundance?
