This is a really difficult topic to broach because of how subjective a ‘slur’ can be. I myself am at a bit of a loss as to how to properly reconcile our position because “just don’t be a bigot” really isn’t a fair or concrete answer when it’s essentially the word being punished and not the intent behind it. Unfortunately, this already awkward and complicated topic is made further challenging to address by people who use these conversations as a platform to profess beliefs not kosher to this community.
Additionally, I suspect that even these carefully selected words will be weaponized against myself or the staff team in some manner or another (though perhaps not in this thread), so it really makes discussion about these kinds of things challenging. We are still discussing potential solutions to this issue in management and amongst the staff team, but are always looking for other voices. Please keep it civil.
To directly respond to the post: there is no list, because there is no limit to the creative ways in which people will use language to other, ostracize, or bully people for their differences.

rword got banned because some neverplayer/new player complained about it. Even staff had no problems using the rword before. Because people DONT ACTUALLY MEAN it. The rword stays in CM or in any game. But you never hear people say that shit to people in real life.
Its like words have different meanings depending on where you use them.
But of fucking course we drag real life shit into spessman video game too.
Just literally tell people not to say the rword instead of banning them for 7d automatically. THEY WILL UNDERSTAND
When you look at staff-help the people complaining about getting banned for 7days are new players who dont even know the rword ban.
also dont @me no one reads the rules as a new player. They just play and learn the game/rules as time goes on. B-BUT I READ THE RULES (not everyone is like you. I didnt even read the rules when i played this game. But everyone knows that you shouldn’t be an ass to everyone or anyone)

Are you willing to unban me since we both agree this rule is unfair and hard to enforce? If I had known the word was ban-able before the ban I would not have used it in fear of an automatic ban. I feel this is unfair to me since I enjoy playing the server. Thank you

when you join the server, this shows up on the right side of your screen, you dont even have to read the rules to know its banned.

No, you were banned for a term which has been widely acknowledged as a bannable term (it lets you know when you join the game). I agree that there should be some sort of general policy reform, but this isn’t a platform for having bans removed. It would be wildly inappropriate and a dangerous precedent for me to just remove bans whenever I want.

I for one think ban-able words are asinine but I am just a ungaloid. really we should be dealing with toxicity per case basis. but still if they are going to have banned words give us a list if not your being a dick about the rules. The fact is a lot of words can be slurs and we are dealing with a game that probably at lest 40% non native English speakers… the whole thing screams impending purity spiral. I mean I can get a lot of words but the R word really? tis a ill omen.
EDIT: just read biolocks posts in this thread and I retract my statement about “give us a list if not your being a dick about the rules” they bring up a good point about how may ways to be toxic but still the fact there is no list is but clearly also kind of is…well its deeply disconcerting.

I mean you say that but… why not just give us a list. The issue is well yes even if you lads can’t give us a full list you can at lest give us a list of the auto-ban words. I mean there really is no reason not to if you don’t want lads to use words in question. if its automatically handing out bans than there is a list, just give us that list.
Like really the only reason I can think of why there is no public list is because of fear of backlash.
The thing is i am not for some wild west situation but still if auto bans are going to be handed out at lest you can tell us what going to get us banned.
I mean, when are you ever going to say the r-word or n-word or any transphobic/homophobic slurs and think ‘in the context of which I am using this word, it will be understood by all to not be being used a slur’
Skip to “race, nationality…” and read the rest from there. This list isn’t great (with some things getting over and under rated) but it gives a good context to folk who are english second language.
In general, if it’s included and is about a minority group, just don’t say it, even if it’s included as “mild”.

It’s very limited by being British tho, but it’s got enough to be decent. Also due to the fact it attempts to be a semi-expansive list, plenty of the things included as even more subject to context than most things CM cares about, do some googling if you think something seems strange or is a word you think has a homonym or is context based.

Well nice to have… that really doesn’t fix the issue if anything it high lights the the problem even more. a lot the slurs are really quite benign with out context. we got more than just a small few non native English speakers. The thing is if the word “ret@rd” is a auto ban word there is a good chance of words that are benign with out context.
So really they should just give us the list of auto ban words like i said no real point not to just give us it to us.
Really my issue is that they are auto banning with out us know for what words. like really just give us a list or don’t auto ban.
Lads are acting like its cut an dry but its really not… just don’t be a dick they say… ya but acting like we should know what not to say is not that easy. Take a example of the slur “uncle tom” this can very easily be used with out realizing what it means. Or take the slur “redneck” again i can very easily see this being used in a benign context.
Or lets look at the slur “dike” its again can be used in a benign context quite easily it quite literally means a wall to stop flooding or a ditch.
There is so many slurs that can be quite benign in context but no they will not give us the list of auto banned words… why? no really why not?
This would make perfect sense albeit given it’s an autoban that level of nuance does not exist

Even if that shit appears it doesnt take into account that almost everyone who hasn’t played CM use the rword on the daily basis when playing other games. People can’t adjust that fast. They will say it as a form of habit.
Literally just note them/give them a warning or heads up to not say rword. IN A FRIENDLY MANNER. AND PEOPLE WILL UNDERSTAND

They don’t autoban is the thing, or to my knowledge they don’t. It’s just a 7 day unappealable, and I really can’t think of any of those slurs you can use in their homonym form that aren’t overtly obvious by the message that will be ahelped.
You are never gonna be saying “fire retardant” in game, you’ll just be saying “fireproof”, you’ll never be talking about flood either and if you do for both of these, it’ll be very obvious that an admin isn’t going to 7 day you for it.
I can’t think of a single case in which the use of one of these words can be misinterpreted as a slur within the context of everything you could be saying in game, since 99% of the times I’ve seen slurs used in games it’s people throwing gamer baby rage fits over a video game, with the other 1% just not understanding the social context
