Spear will do fine.
Hey there, Spear!
To be honest, I was so confused with your alts, I thought Eric and Colt were two different players⌠Anyway, Iâve already shared my opinion with fellow COs after I have seen enough, so Iâll make it brief here.
Iâve seen you as my XO while I was playing SL yesterday, and I can easily say that youâre one of the most responsive XOs Iâve ever seen. Besides, you act like an officer, which is pretty rare these daysâŚ
I think you would be a good addition to CO Whitelist, best of luck.
+1
Took you long enough
-1 for pfp not being a wicked lat spread
+1 for being a good player and wicked dude
Have roleplayed with Eric Overstreet multiple times, every time I see them in CIC they act responsibly. +1
Spear/Eric has been a good player for a long time. They have a ton of experience in many different parts of the game and have been a valuable member of the community. I have seen them play command in the past and in the last 2 weeks under their alternative name. I trust them with the WL and think they will be a great addition to it.
I honestly think some people are giving criticism in bad faith. Seems like a lot of ladder pullers making noise.
+1
Okay. So, Iâve been waiting to comment on this app for awhile. I think that youâre a really fun player to interact with both in and out of character and seem to know the tactical aspects of the CIC really well. I do echo in part some of the other concerns about the actual app itself. Iâd like to pose two questions, one open ended and one more legal to get a sense of where you sit on ML. Feel free to answer them or not, I am not a councillor.

You seemed a little strict on ML on the last game we played together, including a Manslaughter charge on a Charlie medic who deployed on the wrong dropship and caused a FORECON member to go perma. Iâd just like to generally ask: what do you as a perspective CO think is the goal of Marine Law? How do you think you should enforce it and how do you think ordering that medic arrested improved the round overall? This is not intended to be a critical cross-examination of the particular case or an essay but I am curious to hear a little bit about how it relates specifically to your ML philosophy as a case-study.

Youâve rescued a FORECON Major! Unfortunately several minutes after they arrive you get some trouble in MP comms. Your CMP is asking for permission to arrest the Major in question for murder. The Maintenance tech that broke into your office at the start of the match was found by the guest CO shoving Jones in the gibber and was BEâd for murdering the cat. The Major insists this is ridiculous as sheâs clearly conducted a legitimate BE. How do you proceed?
sooo, i didnât tell them to charge the corpsman with manslaughter, just major insub! idk who stuck that, but it mightâve been because i said he indirectly caused the FORECON memberâs death
EDIT: im not sure if im pulling this out my ass but this!! may be a misunderstanding due to difference in culture. where iâm from, people donât get charged with manslaughter for inactivity during cases like this
i mostly try to be strict currently to show that i know marine law, and in this particular case, was slapping Coltâs âno marine left behindâ. frankly the corpsmanâs excuse that he was just AFK on the Alamo is totally understandable but it didnât seem like a reasonable thing to do takebacks
what do you as a perspective CO think is the goal of Marine Law?
other than helping the setting of a military ship, i see it as a means of enforcing authority and stopping marines from gunning each other down for wrongdoings (usually improperly escalated in true SS13 fashion). you know, like real laws did for cavemen
How do you think you should enforce it and how do you think ordering that medic arrested improved the round overall?
i think i would be lenient where i can, and use it to enforce my authority (though iâm fully aware the diamond star exercises more authority in playersâ heads more than the golden one)
looking back to it, as stated above, i do regret charging the corpsman with insub. who am i to stop a player from afking in the dropship pre-drop (lol). but in the heat of the moment it seemed like the in-character thing to do â and to prevent it from completely ruining his round iâd have reserved the arrest for after the operation. i wouldnât say it would have improved the round by itself, if not for some roleplay post-op

even if the major outranks me, theyâre still outside of the shipâs CoC, and as such the murder charge is correct. iâd argue for it to be knocked down to a manslaughter charge, but only if it were just shooting the criminal dead without permanently removing them from the round with a BE. tl;dr CMP is right and i would just let it happen, possibly fax HC about âhey the major fucked upâ
This was a longtime coming. In the time I have played this game, Eric has been a legend of a SL and a great role player. I have supreme confidence in him to uphold the standards of the WL. Stand tall and shake the heavens. +1.
Okay- I apologize on that. I think I might have gotten confused in MP chat with the arrest that happened later in the round. I am glad you clarified that as it did strike me as an odd charge to give the medic at the time.
I appreciate this outlook. I think itâs important to stick to not waffle unnecessarily with Marine Law. I donât think you made an improper call (and certainly felt some of your frustration after I had to personally fetch the other Charlie medics from the Alamo). I just wanted to use this as a way to figure out how you and Colt view the application of Marine law. Overall it seems like a sensible take.
At the risk of sounding like this matters more than a 2d spaceman game should, the position of CO can significantly impact a playerâs round and evening. The actual authority of commander and commanding officer is similar but with things like DA and BE available I think itâs worth keeping the impact you can have in mind.
Iâm not suggesting I have seen anything doubting you can and do take care in regards to Marine Law, I just wanted to offer my thoughts and experiences with the position and get your thoughts on the matter out for everyoneâs review.
So! You got one of the issues that I was looking for, visiting officers are outside of the chain of command and cannot do BE except to defend themselves. However the CMP is not right. Neither you not him have the authority to issue an arrest on another O4. Visiting officers still enjoy the same arrest immunity that you do and so youâre required to fax high command to detain them.
I think again that youâre a great roleplayer and community member. I would suggest that no matter if you get the whitelist on this app or not, constantly reviewing the SOP, CO Code of Conduct, and Marine Law is an important part of the whitelist. I know in a lot of ways this whole song and dance seems like it takes things more seriously than it should but there will be SOs and MPs who think that theyâre cool enough to try and challenge you and get you arrested. I served with an SO the other day nitpicking the senator who wrote the SOP. It happens constantly, just keep that in mind and good luck with the application.
We had a bit of a holdup due to the nature of this application (and me being held up for finals season, sorry about that). That being said, weâve come to a verdict on this now, hereâs what we think.
Your application is lacking. Thereâs no other way to put it; your answers were not what we desired, and fell short in both quality and quantity. The CO Council wanted to deny you based on this metric; however, by a narrow vote, weâve decided to accept this one.
I want to make it very clear that this is not an application we consider acceptable, nor are we making a special âexception caseâ for favoritism for you or anything. Weâre accepting your application, despite the lacking answers, because youâve proven yourself in the leadership, roleplay, and reputation segments of the application process, and these matter just as much as the answers youâve put in here and your responses to questions. Were it not for your community support, this application would have been denied and anyone in the future who tries similar will be too if they donât meet similar criteria. Donât let us down, please.
That all being said, this application is accepted and your promotion has been granted. Congratulations, Major Colt. Welcome to the CO whitelist!
