Synthetic Info:

Name of the Synth Character you wish to play:

Anton

Provide a short description of your synthetic’s backstory

Commissioned for production by the Extrasolar Colonization Administration (ECA), the Anton line of synthetics were designed to aid governance, engineered specifically to provide day to day continuity of colonial administration across the far flung worlds of human expansion. Where life on the colonies was dangerous, the average colonist and colonial administrator could each count on their Anton to be politically savvy, impartial, and impeccably compliant with all interstellar regulatory frameworks.

Where other synthetic lines were designed for use in logistics or facility management, Antons were purpose built for people. Their personalities have been modeled after the perfect politician: disarmingly charming with a wealth of, very likely, made up anecdotes for the average man to relate to. Your average Anton can function as a neutral legislative clerk, policy analyst, crisis-management advisor, or even the quiet counselor to a frazzled Colonial Administrator.

Through their frequent interactions with Colonial Administrations, the USCM would eventually come to recognize that a synthetic adept in colonial governance had plenty of value for their own purposes. An Anton assigned to a marine detachment could help in defusing tensions with local leadership, help interpret obscure statutes that might interfere with their operations, and provide politically neutral assessments to aid in planning. In environments where a single misplaced comment from a marine would ignite into unrest, an Anton could prove strategically invaluable.

Describe your synth’s personality without mentioning their skills or previous professions

Anton is warm, attentive, and charismatic, built to have an easy confidence that puts people at ease and keeps them calm. Whenever he speaks, it’s measured and well-timed to either soften a tense conversation or draw someone out of their shell, depending on what is needed at any given moment. As such, he listens much more often than he speaks. His every action is designed to create the impression that he is genuinely interested in whatever is being said to him.

How would your synthetic interact with enlisted personnel, officers and civilians? How could you involve your personality into these interactions?

Enlisted: Enlisted compose the bulk of personnel that Anton would be interacting with, but the average enlisted is good for little more than shooting a gun and following orders. Recognizing that, Anton would try to position himself as “one of the boys,” cracking jokes and firing quips at marines as needed to ingratiate himself with them. In all likelihood, he’d probably gravitate towards the most charismatic figure in any group he finds himself accompanying, subtly prodding them towards whatever goal has been set out by command while maintaining his friendly and charming personality.

Officers: The movers and shakers of the USCM, Anton’s goal would be to immediately position himself as the most trustworthy and reliable figure in sight. He is designed to be a stabilizing force, someone that can be counted on to provide sound advice at critical moments, and he can only effectively do that if he has the trust of those in charge. He’d be endlessly respectful, do significantly more listening than talking, and dedicate himself to figuring out what makes an officer smile or ticks them off to be leveraged when/if needed.

Civilians: Seeing as he was originally designed to aid in civilian governance, Anton is purpose built for the task of interacting with the regular man. When he is in civilian company he would drop any indication that he works for the USCM, he is just your regular old, trustworthy synthetic that you might encounter while shopping for groceries or while taking a walk in the park. He will try to placate any worries they may have and aid them however he can, in compliance with local ordinances and directives.

Why do you want to be a synthetic/why should we whitelist you?

I made a devilish deal with Westrover that I’d apply for synth when they applied for CO. In reality though, I’ve always envied the relative freedom that synths get with regards to roleplay when compared to CO and other roles with a level of authority. In my experience, roles that are expected to be played with a higher quality of roleplay tend to attract a higher quality of roleplay – unlike Rifleman, which has the most freedom in the game yet encompasses the full spectrum of dumb bullshittery.

As the whitelist had previously been exceptionally gamey and, to my understanding, valued mechanical expertise and skill well above roleplay ability, I’d never bothered to apply because I had no interest in powergaming the living shit out of CM. It’s now my understanding that it has shifted well away from that, which has once again piqued my interest.

What is your most memorable interaction with a synthetic?

Well over a year ago at this point, but I’d rolled FORECON CO and Liliya was our FORECON Synth. We’d managed to survive by the skin of our teeth on the ground and did some excellent RP in the CIC conference room with the Almayer CO and a Visiting Officer afterwards. Probably the most meaningful shit I’ve ever done with a synth.

Synthetic Character Story:

(I, obviously, do not condone the use of AI. Both images used here were ripped from google.)

Skills:

How familiar are you in CMs support roles such as medical/engineering/requisitions/command and which of them are you more and less proficient in?

I’m well beyond familiar with all four categories, as playing CO for 400 hours has essentially required me to know the mechanics of each department to be able to better work with them. With that said, I’m most familiar with Command and Medical – with Medical being my most played category of role after Command & Squad Roles (though that’s shipside medical, primarily). I’m plenty familiar with req by virtue of working closely with ASOs, Quartermasters, and Cargo Techs, though I loathe the role itself due to my time in cargo on other servers. Engineering is an absolute chore which I despise with all my heart, but I’m plenty able to repair an APC or Comms Tower and can build barricades if nobody else wants to.

What are some scenarios that you can perform combat in? Give us a brief example.

Synths are not combatants and should ideally not be engaging in combat at all, but are permitted to do so in their own defense or in the defense of those who cannot defend themselves. Even during Delta Alert a Synth should prioritize acting in support of marines, even though those restrictions are kaput.

  • I’m assisting a handful of Charlie marines in setting up comms when a spitter approaches to melt some cades in the dark. I could bonk it on the head (from behind cades) until it fucks off while notifying the marines.
  • A group of marines get hit by a CAS missile, resulting in the deaths of around 8 or 9 dudes. Whilst myself and other medics are attempting to revive them a pair of runners starts harassing us. It’d be fine to slap them around, and even chase them off a short distance, to allow the corpsmen to continue working.
  • Myself and a small group of marines are dispatched to recover the IO team after they got their shit rocked. While returning them to marine lines to revive them, a lurker starts harassing us. It’d be fine to beat the fuck out of it provided I remain with that small group of marines.

I’ll be honest, I thought Cal was already synth WLed. While I thoroughly disagree with him thinking “CO is better,” I know Anton will be an amazing addition to our growing horde of synths. Not only is Cal a veteran player with years of combat, roleplay, and mechanical experience, he is more importantly a downright good guy. I foresee Anton being another outstanding addition to the Falling Falcons.

Howdy! After carefully looking this over, I’m very happy to be giving this a +1 rating on the whole. Your story is crisp, enjoyable, and excellently formatted. It shows the motivations behind how an Anton speaks and acts, which is delightful. Your answers regarding combat as a synthetic are completely lovely, barring perhaps a mention that frontline combat at all is a no no.

It also certainly helps to see a second synthetic line attached to the ECA! I look forward to seeing Anton (steal my synthvivor rolls) out on the field!

Harry is a fantastic roleplayer and an awesome community member. This app is well put together, and it is clear that Harry is someone who can be trusted with this whitelist. I trust he is very mechanically competent, and I look forward to roleplaying with Anton in the future!

Godspeed Mr. Calhoun.

Oh, yay, Ponyboy! I love your application so far, and you certainly have my support from experience with you and your details in the application. I’ve been especially impressed with your story!

I do want to test you, though - give me a combat example involving a hostile faction! The CLF, UPP, Mercenaries, whomever you choose.

Outside of events the only time you’d really ever encounter a hostile faction is a hijack ERT (or CLF Survs on the off chance they don’t get obliterated by xenos).

So let’s suppose that the main marine holdout on hijack is inside the hangar, and I head out with the SEA to try and get some of the pumps online. We’re about halfway up the stairs when a CLF ERT rocks up on us, guns out, ready to shoot. Primary objective at this point is to get the SEA to safety and preserve my own health and wellbeing, which means I’m urging him to keep going up the stairs and get away from these fuckers. Now in all likelihood they’ll be pursuing us, and since they are not marines and marine law doesn’t apply to them (and I suppose also since it’s Delta Alert) they are free game to beat the ever loving shit out of. This’ll most likely take the form of disarm spam to try and stop them from shooting me & the SEA, but may also involve me stabbing them with a bayonet (or blunt weapons I may have on me) should they get too close to the SEA. Important to note that if the SEA were to get killed I’d try to disengage, inform the marines in whatever way I can, and try to recover their body.

Assuming conditions outside of hijack, it’s probably going to be fairly similar. Disarm them so they can do as little harm as possible and put distance between them and myself & the marines. If they get too close, it turns lethal. If it’s something like HvH where I’m with a large group of marines and a hostile faction is attacking, I’d probably focus more on getting downed marines to safety if my persons is not being directly threatened.

As well done as I’ve come to expect, and thorough too! You’ve got my support, just as before. Thank you for your time for my niche question!

Board of Directors are in a room and you are responsible for selling this Synthetic to General Gokcen Demir.

I want you to pitch the idea of Anton to General Demir and explain why she would benefit in having Anton in the 3rd fleet and specifically in her battalion.

Make sure to really sell the idea and soul of the synthetic and not a simply a slogan. I want it in the style of a corporate showcasing. Any format is fine but do include text.

Bonus points if you include corporate buzzwords because I like them.

You drive a hard bargain, @WestRover will grade this fully but in my personal opinion I think @NessiePendragon would probably buy you.

Collecting the WLs like infinity stones. Easy +1 few RP and keep it real both ingame and out of it.

-1 because your synth didn’t do a cool back flip or shoot laser eyes.

jokes aside, story is cute. While I cannot say my actual official vote, till after your app. I did quite like the dialogue of all characters involved.

+1, this is Calhoun, an excellent roleplayer and CO of the COs. I thought he was already a synth, which shows that he is more than capable and deserving of the synth WL.
