Synthetic Info:
Name of the Synth Character you wish to play:
Anton
Provide a short description of your synthetic’s backstory
Commissioned for production by the Extrasolar Colonization Administration (ECA), the Anton line of synthetics were designed to aid governance, engineered specifically to provide day to day continuity of colonial administration across the far flung worlds of human expansion. Where life on the colonies was dangerous, the average colonist and colonial administrator could each count on their Anton to be politically savvy, impartial, and impeccably compliant with all interstellar regulatory frameworks.
Where other synthetic lines were designed for use in logistics or facility management, Antons were purpose built for people. Their personalities have been modeled after the perfect politician: disarmingly charming with a wealth of, very likely, made up anecdotes for the average man to relate to. Your average Anton can function as a neutral legislative clerk, policy analyst, crisis-management advisor, or even the quiet counselor to a frazzled Colonial Administrator.
Through their frequent interactions with Colonial Administrations, the USCM would eventually come to recognize that a synthetic adept in colonial governance had plenty of value for their own purposes. An Anton assigned to a marine detachment could help in defusing tensions with local leadership, help interpret obscure statutes that might interfere with their operations, and provide politically neutral assessments to aid in planning. In environments where a single misplaced comment from a marine would ignite into unrest, an Anton could prove strategically invaluable.
Describe your synth’s personality without mentioning their skills or previous professions
Anton is warm, attentive, and charismatic, built to have an easy confidence that puts people at ease and keeps them calm. Whenever he speaks, it’s measured and well-timed to either soften a tense conversation or draw someone out of their shell, depending on what is needed at any given moment. As such, he listens much more often than he speaks. His every action is designed to create the impression that he is genuinely interested in whatever is being said to him.
How would your synthetic interact with enlisted personnel, officers and civilians? How could you involve your personality into these interactions?
Enlisted: Enlisted compose the bulk of personnel that Anton would be interacting with, but the average enlisted is good for little more than shooting a gun and following orders. Recognizing that, Anton would try to position himself as “one of the boys,” cracking jokes and firing quips at marines as needed to ingratiate himself with them. In all likelihood, he’d probably gravitate towards the most charismatic figure in any group he finds himself accompanying, subtly prodding them towards whatever goal has been set out by command while maintaining his friendly and charming personality.
Officers: The movers and shakers of the USCM, Anton’s goal would be to immediately position himself as the most trustworthy and reliable figure in sight. He is designed to be a stabilizing force, someone that can be counted on to provide sound advice at critical moments, and he can only effectively do that if he has the trust of those in charge. He’d be endlessly respectful, do significantly more listening than talking, and dedicate himself to figuring out what makes an officer smile or ticks them off to be leveraged when/if needed.
Civilians: Seeing as he was originally designed to aid in civilian governance, Anton is purpose built for the task of interacting with the regular man. When he is in civilian company he would drop any indication that he works for the USCM, he is just your regular old, trustworthy synthetic that you might encounter while shopping for groceries or while taking a walk in the park. He will try to placate any worries they may have and aid them however he can, in compliance with local ordinances and directives.
Why do you want to be a synthetic/why should we whitelist you?
I made a devilish deal with Westrover that I’d apply for synth when they applied for CO. In reality though, I’ve always envied the relative freedom that synths get with regards to roleplay when compared to CO and other roles with a level of authority. In my experience, roles that are expected to be played with a higher quality of roleplay tend to attract a higher quality of roleplay – unlike Rifleman, which has the most freedom in the game yet encompasses the full spectrum of dumb bullshittery.
As the whitelist had previously been exceptionally gamey and, to my understanding, valued mechanical expertise and skill well above roleplay ability, I’d never bothered to apply because I had no interest in powergaming the living shit out of CM. It’s now my understanding that it has shifted well away from that, which has once again piqued my interest.
What is your most memorable interaction with a synthetic?
Well over a year ago at this point, but I’d rolled FORECON CO and Liliya was our FORECON Synth. We’d managed to survive by the skin of our teeth on the ground and did some excellent RP in the CIC conference room with the Almayer CO and a Visiting Officer afterwards. Probably the most meaningful shit I’ve ever done with a synth.
Synthetic Character Story:
(I, obviously, do not condone the use of AI. Both images used here were ripped from google.)
Skills:
How familiar are you in CMs support roles such as medical/engineering/requisitions/command and which of them are you more and less proficient in?
I’m well beyond familiar with all four categories, as playing CO for 400 hours has essentially required me to know the mechanics of each department to be able to better work with them. With that said, I’m most familiar with Command and Medical – with Medical being my most played category of role after Command & Squad Roles (though that’s shipside medical, primarily). I’m plenty familiar with req by virtue of working closely with ASOs, Quartermasters, and Cargo Techs, though I loathe the role itself due to my time in cargo on other servers. Engineering is an absolute chore which I despise with all my heart, but I’m plenty able to repair an APC or Comms Tower and can build barricades if nobody else wants to.
What are some scenarios that you can perform combat in? Give us a brief example.
Synths are not combatants and should ideally not be engaging in combat at all, but are permitted to do so in their own defense or in the defense of those who cannot defend themselves. Even during Delta Alert a Synth should prioritize acting in support of marines, even though those restrictions are kaput.
- I’m assisting a handful of Charlie marines in setting up comms when a spitter approaches to melt some cades in the dark. I could bonk it on the head (from behind cades) until it fucks off while notifying the marines.
- A group of marines get hit by a CAS missile, resulting in the deaths of around 8 or 9 dudes. Whilst myself and other medics are attempting to revive them a pair of runners starts harassing us. It’d be fine to slap them around, and even chase them off a short distance, to allow the corpsmen to continue working.
- Myself and a small group of marines are dispatched to recover the IO team after they got their shit rocked. While returning them to marine lines to revive them, a lurker starts harassing us. It’d be fine to beat the fuck out of it provided I remain with that small group of marines.
