I guess I was never noticed by the CO when ever I did anything cool.
I remember doing a ton of crazy stuff, like dual Mod88 mag dumping a crusher to death, with a SO watching I might add. Also the time I went Scout Spec and killed 4 xenos that where pulling flanks at various times. Also the countless times I would go and retrieve my marine friends when no-one else would, But I guess they never say anything about me.
I think the closest I was to getting a medal though was when I killed a Praetorian, Ravager, and I think a Defender[or some other T1] And Windhealer was ground combat CO. I went to him and told him if I could get a medal for it, He said something like this,“No, I am expecting you to do good.” I was a bit disappointed.

Honestly stuff like this is why whenever I play Staff Officer/Executive Officer I try and make an effort to always write down a medal commendation or two on paper so I can submit it in person to the CO if they ever wake up during a round. I’ve had a lot of success getting COs to give out medals when submitting paperwork rather than just saying “this guy good gib medal”. I think medals are just good roleplay, free to give out and a lot of people like getting one.
What’s interesting about this medal is that it’s an example of one that I submitted in writing to the CO by shoving it into their hands and giving them a salute. 90% of the time it’s up to the Staff Officers to get the CO to dish out medals rather than the CO directly observing and handing them out.
This is probably my favourite medal that I’ve received so far because the round was a lot of fun. Chen was doing some fantastic roleplay with a whole military court session which you don’t see almost ever. Involved the Liaison, requisitions, military police, prosecutors and defence, just great stuff all around held in the church lol. Xenos had like 4 boilers and we couldn’t make the final push on the hive in the cave system so we had to bait them out into the open with the threat of a nuke and were then finally able to complete a pincer movement to kill a good bulk of them. Round took almost 3 hours and was just good times all around.

I feel you once I finish all my CO stuff And Become a CO medals are something I am really going to focus on as they are not used enough.

How to get a medal:
Step 1- Be SL, or aSL
Step 2- Talk a lot so CIC can’t read chat without seeing you
Step 3- Congratulate everyone on comms on killing xenos (even if no one from your squad did it)
Step 4- Never ask for a medal
Step 5- Congratulations you now have a medal
Literally 90% of medals just go to SLing or aSLing, I shit you not
Being noticed because you have the funny big text in radio as the 91656 revive solo medic sweats, unable to talk because they’re crushed by the weight of carrying the op is based as fuck

I had 2 medals as medic, granted 1 of them for reviving Chen’s ass (he was CO).

Reason why SL is on top is because SL is the MOST VISIBLE role groundside. You notice any half-competent SL who talks, whereas other marines usually need to be truly outstanding to merit other people’s recommendations or talk about them enough.
Like, specialists and most marines are too busy doing their job to actually talk that much besides callouts, so unless they do a truly outstanding job at fragging xenos, marines won’t talk about them enough to get the CO’s attention.
