Mentor Application - Furyaquario

Byond CKEY:

Furyaquario

Discord ID:

aquario

Character Name(s):

James T. “Lion” Worm, Grace B. “Garlic Bread” Garland, XO-G

Why do you want to become a Mentor?:

I have had some really pleasant experiences in the past being taught by people in CM, and I think its implemented in a very unique and fun way. (at least on the human side, nothing against xenos imaginary friends) I want to pass on what others have taught to me to the newer players, and I really enjoy doing so. I often play shipside roles with more lax responsibilities, (MP, ASO, etc) so that I can have the opportunity to teach newer players.

What gameplay areas do you know and which areas are you strong and weak in?:

Things that happen commonly throughout the course of a round I am fairly confident in. Fixing APCs, surgeries, and general SOP to name a few. What I am not great in is: shipside engineering, in game lore and backstory, and how to get more complex research items efficiently.

How often are to able to play CM?:

I usually play a round after work, and more than that on my days off

Hii!

I’ve had a lot of positive experience with both Lion and Grace ‘Garlic Bread’. Just a quick reminder to please include your Xeno tag as well!

I’ve had nothing but good experiences with Aquario and her characters. She is knowledgeable on the game and even taught me the basics of ordnance technician.
However, as is tradition for me, I will ask a handful of common questions that you’ll encounter to gauge your responses.

Xenomorph questions:

  1. ‘I’m being told to emit pheromones by other xenomorphs, what does that mean?’
  2. ‘I’m taking forever to heal even when I rest on weeds- why is that?’
  3. ‘What is the difference between a lesser drone and an actual drone?’
  4. ‘I’m a drone, but I want to evolve into a lurker, how do I do that?’

Marine questions:

  1. ‘I shot a ravager, and it hit me with spikes. Why did it do that?’
  2. ‘I’ve shot a shotgun and now it wont shoot, how do I chamber a round?’
  3. ‘How do I unlock new roles? I really want to play Corpsman.’
  4. ‘What is the difference between Gunship Pilot and Dropship Pilot?’

Xeno Questions:

  1. Pheromones are a status effect that supporting aliens have access to. Even though it doesn’t feel like much, just sitting nearby other sisters with “recovery” on is helpful. To access pheros, you can select “Emit Phero’s” as one your xenopowers, or bind it in the macro’s menu. For extra information on pheros, click the help button once you hit “emit”

  2. In the status panel, you can check your health, try watching your health regen when you lay down next to another sister emitting “recovery pheros” (the little plus) or a healing node, and watch the rate increase dramatically. Don’t be afraid to be vocal and ask for help or whats going on.

  3. Really, difference between lesser and normal drones is in expendability. Lesser drones are encouraged (but dont have to) act like their movie counter parts, defending critical locations or the hive itself with no regard for itself, while a normal drone must focus on survival above all else. Lesser drones also have weaker and slower abilities than that of a normal drone.

  4. First step, find somewhere safe. Do not do this nearby anything that can hurt you. Next step, get full health. Then, see if there are actually any slots for a lurker. Check the “Hive Status” button, in the alien panel. If there are no tier 2 slots, don’t worry, it just means you’re going to have to wait to become a lurker. Now, in the alien panel, click De-volve. Note, now you cannot return to a drone for at least 5 minutes. Runner is the type of alien that evolves into lurker, you can find what everything evolves into on the wiki. (Lurker - CM-SS13 - Wiki)

Marine questions:

  1. Xenomorphs can pick different strains with different abilities, that is not a standard ravager, but a “Hedgehog” which specializes in spikes and armor. You can read all the xenomorph strains here: Strains - CM-SS13 - Wiki

  2. In order to “rack” the shotgun, you need to use the unique action button/hotkey. The green, blue, yellow and red buttons that change when you hit 1-4 are called intents, and to the left of intents you should see a bunch of strange looking icons. The one that looks like a spring being crushed by two pistons is the “use unique action” button, and racks your shotgun. Alternatively, you can press spacebar, which is the default hotkey for this action, if you have hotkey mode on.

  3. I’m really glad you want to help out on the frontline with a medical roll like corspman! However, some of ins and outs of medicine are important to learn so you dont accidentally do more harm than good. You unlock corpsman by playing, one hour in a medical roll, and one hour playing something like rifleman. Start a shift as a Nurse, find the Chief Medical Officer, and ask them for the crash course for battlefield medics! (link to nurse wiki but im a new user and can only post 2 links per post)

  4. In the past, nothing, but as time has progressed, there are much more differences. Now, everything I’m about to discuss is a difference between the ships themselves, and not the skills of the pilots, you may be ordered or required to perform the others duty in extreme circumstances, so its a good idea to familiarize yourself with both. But simply, the gunship pilot flies the Normandy, and is responsible for Close Air Support, or blowing shit up, retrieving medi-vacs and fultons, and paradropping. The dropship pilot flies the Alamo, is responsible for transporting all troops too and from the ground, treating wounded marines on the dropship and ensuring they make it to the medbay on the Almayer, and for the safe transport of any civilians rescued from the area of operation. (pilot officer wiki link but im a new user and can only post 2 links per post)

My past interactions with Grace has been positive so far and, from my observations of her, she has a good wealth of knowledge and approachable personality to make her a good mentor.

+1 from me.
Good answers and good person to interact with. Not a trouble maker from what I have seen.
