Synthetic Info:

Name of the Synth Character you wish to play:

Nansen

Provide a short description of your synthetic’s backstory

Nansen is a 3rd generation synthetic produced by Weyland-Yutani with the intent purpose of assisting rural communities and colonies in fire prevention, surveying, resource management and disaster prevention and relief. Initial rollouts of the model saw wavering results, with some models experiencing simulated panic attacks while serving in fire-lookout and charting positions. These were deemed isolated incidents by Weyland-Yutani and not as a fault of the model. The latest versions of Nansens have further refined their capabilities, eliminated any further potential flaws and have proven themselves vital for many far-flung and rural colonies.

Advertising related to Nansen units typically involve illustrious events related to heroics and or the pioneer spirit; for example, Nansen units during the Great Corridor III 2176 Fire battling fires in order to safely evacuate their accompanying team of fire fighters and volunteer workers.

Describe your synth’s personality without mentioning their skills or previous professions

While initially Nansens may seem rather distant, their determination, pragmatic optimism and absolute dedication to ensuring their compatriots are safe give them an aura of confidence and reassurance, important for assisting during high-stress situations like relief or evacuation efforts. Nansens prioritize rapport and bonding with those they serve or work with, in an effort to promote effectiveness amongst what should be tight-knit work crews. A Nansen is primarily focused on aiding others’ conversations along albeit rather bluntly and come with a rather large repertoire of classical music knowledge and are chock full of lessons of history relevant to explorers, adventurers and pioneers in order to educate and converse, occasionally referencing famous explorers during conversations or events. Nansens additionally have a slight Scandinavian twang/accent and commonly interject small Scandinavian phrases or words into their speech, both as an identifying quirk and in an attempt to relate to varying backgrounds.

How would your synthetic interact with enlisted personnel, officers and civilians? How could you involve your personality into these interactions?

With Nansens not specifically made for military use, their ability to fit in with marines struggles slightly, but not significantly and are much better at reassuring civilians and assisting with paramilitary or local authorities, perfect for working aboard auxiliary vessels and patrol ships.

Enlisted:
The enlisted marine on average are rather young with inexperienced and naive perspectives, they may not lead the world but they carry it. Morale, leadership and perseverance will see a marine through nearly any circumstance and a Nansen will gladly be by their side, supporting them with practical assistance, a reassuring tale and guidance through difficulties. While not leaders or speechgivers, in extreme situations Nansens are capable of directing scattered persons and organizing relief efforts, seeing use as a Squad Sergeant or Officer’s aid to reassure marines undergoing break-downs or bouts of panic.

Officers:
Officers subside much more within the realm of rule and regulation than the marines, trust is easily formed with officers by Nansens due to their attention to procedure, authority and orders. Nansens readily showcase their reliability and loyalty when aside an Officer, within the extent of marine and or civilian law and execute their requests to their full capacity.

Civilians:
Non-military personnel and civilians are the intended demographic that a Nansen would interact with, with an easy smile and approachable demeanour, Nansens will aid, reassure and respect civilians all the same. Repeat positive interactions build rapport and trust, important tools to have with the public before, during and after crises.

CLF/Hostile Humans:
As part of the USCM, Nansens are at odds with CLF, UPP and similar hostile factions. However, a Nansen will still try to preserve human life to the best of their ability; be it diplomatic action, treating the wounded and restraining them or by using non-lethal weaponry. CLF and terrorist forces are people scared about uncertainties, they are people to be reassured and reasoned with, not bombed and assaulted at first chance.

Why do you want to be a synthetic/why should we whitelist you?

I’ve always liked synths and androids as story characters, especially within the Bladerunner universe. The notion of finding purpose other than the one you were made to fulfill striking close to me and elements of making your own destiny, which I think segways in a bit nicely into CM synths as you’re a supportive character helping others and pushing their RP stories along. In CM I’ve always tried to greet every synth player I come across simply because I like interacting with them, synths are always cordial and well meaning, their competency and expertise at mechanics a nice bonus to experience as a player. I’d love the ability to contribute to this and spread the synth love and appreciation. I additionally would like to be able to fully assist and use my learned knowledge of the support roles all at once, helping where and when needed shipside and or planetside.

A little add-on is that my character Min Zizka has had a running bit where his ex-wife is a Seegson Synth that divorced him and Seegson is insisting the warranty is void, so there’s that. I’m additionally well aware of my rule 2 notes and rather poor roleplay history, but I think I have been improving in that aspect as of late and I hope that is a shared sentiment. On the rare chance you have seen Roald A.W. Bofors around, I have been using him to practice and refine the in-game mannerisms and dialogue that I would use for Nansen to contrast with Zizka, who is much more of a self-insert character. Trying to replicate a heavy accent has not been easy or turned out well as I’ve found out, my application’s story is pretty representative of what I had settled on and I plan on playing Bofors at least a few times after this application to further showcase that.

What is your most memorable interaction with a synthetic?

Synthetic Character Story:

Skills:

How familiar are you in CMs support roles such as medical/engineering/requisitions/command and which of them are you more and less proficient in?

Firstly I am a Req player with QM and CT being my 2 most played roles and I’d consider myself more than capable of running req by myself, with or without CTs and or training/helping new CTs.I’d also consider myself competent enough at medical, having played a meager amount of corpsman and doctor to understand the chemline, surgeries, field triage, etc… Engineering is a field I’ve recently been learning and figuring out quite a bit; having read an old Pun guide on cameras, having experimented and practiced building things shipside as a MT and as CE. I’ve built up FOB and comms a few times each, not a lot but I can do them. Though I am not confident enough in my abilities to tear up someone else’s cades, if I think they are bad I will tell them and they can fix it if they want. Lastly would be my commanding ability, I don’t often play command roles and when I do it’s really just as the ASO in a supportive way. I have played a small amount of SO and SL, having also commanded OPs as ASO a couple times but this is easily my poorest skill. When I play SO I also play as my A.W. Bofors because it’s so much different of a role than I usually like to play, to the point I need that separate character to get into it. Probably not helpful to admit but I am not a big fan of CIC gameplay, I’d much rather assist and support the departments than yell and relay orders over comms. Additionally I think observing me in action in any of these roles would be far better than I could ever describe myself here.

What are some scenarios that you can perform combat in? Give us a brief example.

Synths are firstmost non-combatants and are only permitted to use melee weapons in self-defense or to protect marines and or civilians that are unable to protect themselves.

Nansen has gone planetside to assist in the construction and maintenance of FOB. While building a line of cades, a runner pounces onto Nansen. As self-defense and defense of the FOB, Nansen would be able to smack the runner till it ran away while retreating back into FOB proper. Ideally he’d also call over a marine or two to identify the threat and prevent further xeno attacks while he continues work on the cades.

Inside some caves Nansen and a few other marines wander into a facehugger trap and a marine triggers it before Nansen is able to remove it or point it out. Nansen straps her to a roller bed and pulls her along to leave the caves in order to perform a medevac to the lack of corpsmen present. Along the way a lurker shows up in an attempt to drag off the marine, Nansen would be permitted to rock the lurker’s shit a little in order to scare it off and defend the hugged marine.

Nansen is tagging alongside a couple IOs collecting intel planetside when out of absolutely nowhere because the IOs forgot to turn on their motion detectors, a runner appears and manages to down an IO. The other IO rushes in and chases off the runner, Nansen would be able to move in and grab the downed IO and may hit any xeno that gets close as he recovers and tends to the IO.

Nansen is near the front when a bad CAS strike downs every marine accompanying him and he is moderately injured, while attempting to call for help and stabilize the marines a swarm of xenos approaches. Nansen would be permitted to defend himself as he retreats away, unfortunately having to leave the marines due to the circumstances.

Nansen is caught alone after a marine hold during hijack failed, while attempting to regroup with marine forces he runs into CLF boarders. After being spotted the CLF open fire and Nansen barely slips away, if pursued Nansen would be capable of fighting back due to both Delta Alert and as part of self-defense, while unadvisable due to the CLF’s ranged abilities. Best case he’d smack one around as they open a doorway to give himself a chance to flee or to subdue the hostile human and restrain him.

Final Info:

Have you been banned in the last month?

No.

Do you have anything else you would like to include about your application?

Thanks for reading my application, I personally feel it’s a bit of a long-shot given my note history and probably less than stellar reputation, but sometimes you just gotta do it and see. You live and sometimes you learn after all.

I had attempted to make a mock-up of what Nansen would look like in-game but my client-side build of CM is really wonky and I wasn’t able to customize my character there. Here is my planned in-game description for Nansen and his selling slogan/catchline (No entry prior to put it) if curious:

Slogan:
“Diligent. Dedicated. Loyal. Nansen.”

Physical Description
He seems rather oddly proportioned; his prominent nose, sunken steel-blue eyes, elongated ears, a thinning comb-over of light brown hair, a well trimmed mustache and beard, slim build and at a bold 6’ 2”- Nansen looks a little funny. His speech sounds as if his words are dancing, his slight Scandinavian accent complimented by his singsong pronunciations. An inspiring presence surrounds him and he stands like a man meant to get others beyond that hill, where he isn’t meant to go.

I play a lot with Zizka, from our Requisitions shenanigans, engineering roles, and whenever I’m CL and my interactions with the crew. Not to mention he’s also taught me the ropes with the former two roles, and he teaches fast and well.

I trust him as a player and I would trust him as a Synth. His roleplay has much improved over the time i’ve seen him and he is confident and comfortable in all roles a synth must play. Easy +1.

Frankly I don’t trust you with the whitelist and I don’t think it is reasonable to trust you with it at this stage given your history on the server thus so far, or to roleplay effectively given that history. I seriously suggest you play more without getting in trouble.

I am sorry, I just noticed that either I missed it or it didn’t prompt me for it but I don’t have anything for memorable interactions. Here it is;

To be honest, there’s not really one perfect or amazing story I’ve had with synths. Just a lot of small positive interactions across a multitude of synth players, I love them all and always enjoy having our little interactions.

form had an issue that was omitting the question, not a mistake on your end.

I have played with Zizka quite a few times over my months of even playing the game, while he has had a troublesome past, with some very major incidents, despite this, he is a very effective quartermaster, and when playing as my coworker or under me in medical, he does his duty well.

Hi there, unfortunately this application is denied;

To start with the good; your story and application themselves were fine, and the council noted you appeared to have the skills necessary to play a synthetic.

That being said; the main concern was with your behavior-- the council was unable to confidently say you’d be able to uphold the expectations for a synth.

Our recommendation to you is to play for another month or so and demonstrate in that time you’re able to play without incident.

You may reapply on 2026-03-17T05:00:00Z
