Another “We improve, not remove” response from the management was expected but you have to realize that nobody wakes up and thinks “Oh I’m going to fix this”
Fact of the matter is that stims and OT are leftovers from base ss13 (R&D, VIRO, Toxins)
When you, as a Xenomorph have to fight a screenwide death from CAS (The silly bomb that sucks you in then explodes that can be combined with several other bombs/rockets) along with a M5 RPG specialist merely shooting in your direction and you being deleted.
I don’t speak out of my asshole, I suck at thsi game and every time I get OT rockets as SADAR I get 15+ kills effortlessly compared to 7-8 whilst using normal rockets.
Sure, OT rockets don’t work on queen but it works on 99% on others lol
A bit off topic but everyone is complaining about new varadero and all we got as a response as “fix it yourself”.
When the majority of the community is saying “X is bad because of x y z” I believe we should take a moment to listen. Of course this isn’t a democracy but I’m genuinely tired of the mentality of “we don’t remove”.
We’ve removed plenty of things, EZ injectors (for no reason, although it didn’t really impact anything), surgical gel being unlimited (for no reason, although it didn’t really impact anything), infinite wey-meds (for no reason, although it didn’t really impact anything)
All of the above was “improved” instead of reworked, why? because good luck reworking something that is balanced around 99% of other game mechanics.
The game would be better off without research, OT and a super buffed CAS.
Instead of marines being the game focus we’ve put all our eyes on specialists, OT and research with the OP items.
Sure, they make the marine’s life easier but I personally do not want to play when I, a rifleman see a SADAR win the round with 1 OT rocket that they completely missed but wiped the hive.
Sure, they make the xeno’s life harder but not in a good way, it’s awful playing xeno that is stunnable/vulnurable to explosives because if the SADAR just clicks within a screen of you you WILL be dead.
but stalkerino what of the poor 0.5% of the playerbase who spent some hours to gamify and minmax. what will they do without their features

1 ot rocket instantly kills 3 xenos i aimed in the vague direction of
stims made me immune to screech, neurotoxin, the acid runner blast, and any attack they could have thrown at me
ya we were going to nuke ya xenos prolly would have died but it is entirely possible to get MST + NST stims out by just killing a few xenomorphs and processing their blood, gg you win
research rework is at least on its way but OT is like a growth that refuses to be excised
i dont even bother defending myself against the acid runner because i know he cannot do any damage to me
the only reason i even fell into crit was because i forgot to pop oxycodone or tramadol before the fight started
“improve, not remove” is valid for both OT and research since they’re fixable (sadar isn’t and should be deleted).
Weed killers, plates, ammo applying hornet effects and other items that do not have a big round impact should have been what these roles are about, not giga OP screenwide bombs and stims.
The issue’s that no one’s been allowed to make any changes for years. Be it “no number changes” or whatever other dev policies it’s been impossible to improve anything about these roles.
If no one is either willing or allowed to work on it, it should simply be disabled until a fix is proposed - if that won’t motivate anyone to work on it then nothing else will and the game’ll be better for it.

Im pretty goofy about OT stuff but this is honestly the take of all takes and i agree as someone who plays and does the dirty work in the lab. Even if i dont agree or maybe dont know fully about whether i’d want OT totally removed or not; i want the obligation of mass producing Fuck You rockets gone. When a random marine comes up to the window and asks before first drop “have anything interesting for me?”, i dont want to tell them “piss off” because i’m stuck in the middle of making six rockets; i want to say “yes; i have three greandes. the first one makes a small fire but it’s hot pink. The second one one has shrapnel and can help clear walls. The third makes cheese.” Dont tell me i have the choice to do this anyways in gameplay. Anyone else knows as well as i that if there’s a demo, you dont. “A slow OT is a useless OT” and all that. Come into the round with the rocket recipe known and get 6 things out before drop.
that’s kind of the reality of OT. there could be fun and stupid low-grade inventiveness. instead i know that the round impact comes from spamming cyclo rockets and it’s a really sort of disappointing feeling. it was funny beyond belief to do a four mortar round a few weeks ago but the idea that the OT was going to provide streams of overpowered mortarshells to sustain it in lieu of making anything else of minimal interest and would badger the lab to endlessly drain tank after tank of polytrinic so we could upkeep overbearing chain aerial support was kind of like…this is the peak of OT? To sit in the back of the lab and not have time to talk to anyone and constantly race against the dropship launch to clean out 4 tanks of reagents only to go to req and repeat?
I think it’s kind of telling that it’s not uncommon for OTs to cryo and ghost after a few minutes, not only to see their work but also the sensation that any meaningful task you have to complete is done, once the demo’s dead, people moved away from mortar, or you’ve snowballed 25 rockets to the FOB and that’s enough For A Round.
I have been saying that for quite a long time. Specs, Tank, APC, OT, Research, all of that sucking power and fun from the bulk of playerbase which is a PFC marine. All for few guys so they get to own double digit killcount.
why dont we improve not remove people who say slurs in game
certainly we can rehabilitate them instead of just permaing them right guys
except we can change OT for the better. In the 2 years I am here I have never seen one alternative to the current OT. We can do it. Just nobody took the time.
We only remove OT if booze machines go back to having infinite bottles for firebomb production.
I dunno guys but OT was not always a thing, I dunno what Legacy someone here is talking about.
OTs should stay, but maybe just make the role more easy to learn, play and make the explosives less powerful but better than normal nades
In the past researcher was literally pure fluff RP role and some people (me included) made legacy code potassium+water grenades. Make enough of them to fill a satchel, hook them up to one remote signaler and you could have instant, or delayed detonation inconspicious satchel charges. Even preds didn’t stand a chance.
Or people setting up shrapnel/glass shard piles and detonating explosives behind to launch them at xenos and instantly delete them.
OT kinda existed always, but not under current name and purposefully made exclusive mechanics.
OT isn’t currently doing much more than vanilla SS13 chemist couldn’t. Just replace SADAR rockets with spear grenades, or pneumatic cannon.
It is easy. Just follow instructions posted on forum in form of guides. Guys with too much time and enthusiasm to do this over and over already figured out basically everything.
Even without that, just use wiki, the harder to make something is, the stronger it is.
Ain’t that easy. Should those “less powerfull but better than normal nades” explosives require the same tedium as current ones?
There is a line where result goes below the effort required to do it.
Would you play with some chems, go on a treasure hunt in the maintenance and ask two other department for stuff just to make a special coffie that makes marines 5% faster? Nobody would more than once in their lifetime.

Honestly the biggest issue with OT by some margin is the rockets. Good OTs can crank out more rockets than a Sadar will even use by first drop which shifts sadar balance from support weapon to stun T3s to instakill any T3 and anyone unfortunate enough to be nearby. It just doesn’t work when there’s 0 indication that sadar has an OT rocket loaded and I can’t envisage a solution aside from removing the functionality to make OT rokets (which their is a pr draft for Removes the option to produce OT rockets by Mister-moon1 · Pull Request #7070 · cmss13-devs/cmss13 · GitHub). OT nades are far less problematic because xenos can see it’s an OT nade when it’s thrown and marines actually have to push close enough to throw the nade anyway. The size of OT shellls can be a little iffy but at least there’s warning that shells are dropping. If removing rockets would make OT more engaging for actual OT players and marines and less horrific for xeno players then that’s a positive change surely,
honestly i dont think its a matter of OT should be removed, it just has one hell of a curve to learn and use, that and if you need anything to resupply let it be chems or mats, you have to beg req or medical to make it, that and your limited to making grenades or mortar shells and at that its a carbon copy of that one good recipe that works and involves the least amount of begging, i think if OT gets a chem dispenser to where they can just mix everything up in one spot without using a bazillion dispensers, and make it to where you can mix flamer fuels, then OT can become a hole lot more fun to play, and if your feelin real ballzy, let them make an OB shell
