learning curve (reading from a pastebin actually)
when someone does ot for the first time and goes to the wiki they see this, behold, the reason ot goes boom ever once in a while
My two cents for xenos about dealing with the sadar/ot rockets. Communicate more, coordinate more. Whenever I’m playing xeno and the spc’s are being tracked in a way and payed attention to by other xenos it makes the spc job harder. When ever I see many xeno players talking and working with the queen or other high tier xenos I see pyros and sadars and gl’s get knocked out or straight up gibbed.
Alot of these OP issues can be negated a smidge, and I emphasize a smidge just by talking more and doing more call outs.
Do more as a individual xeno player by making more call outs and keeping a hyper strict eye on the spc’s when they get spotted.
I wish it was like the eggs of the queen. Xeno melts egg or place eggs so marines cant get them for obvious reasons. When carrier die on frontline xeno know whats coming.
I wish the same with maxcap or other things. If queen die they get her up to research and get maxcap ot nades and so on unlocked.
Roundstart getting something always sound iffy with me. But i am just a player in cm.
People do ot roundstart and cryo from the round, now it will encourage rp and actually wait for it than cryo.
It would make queen frontline way more punished and more risky and xeno will get a indicator what happends next if she dies.
Do people really feel sadar/gl/pyro is boring if they dont get ot? If that is a issue, i get vibes from techweb where “use the points on this or i cryo” issues.
Other thing i never understood in cm. Why does it have to get so damn strong. Why not just a little. I dont think sharper claws or armor that queen can get is strong in compare to ot, and its not even a roundstart thing like ot.
I don’t belive remove ot does anything but maby change how to obtain certain things.
Well this topic kind of digressed and eventually died cause I don’t think anyone really followed through on any potential rework.
If OT has to stay, can we just remove OT SADARs and claymores? It boggles my mind how “features” like this are allowed to stay when they are just blatantly, objectively bad for the game. Permanently taking people out of the game in one click, or no click for that matter, is bad.
Claymores are especially an issue; I don’t understand what they actually add to the game. They instantly delete people with no warning, and not even the OT or the person who placed it is around to get any form of sick sadistic pleasure out of it. It’s literally just a shit design.
Have you read the OT damage thread?
When they’re not looking for alternatives to bug abuse, OT players are literally just minmaxing the most efficient ways to instantly take everything out of a round. Claymores will one-shot runners, lurkers, defenders, warriors, spitters, sentinels, boilers and praetorians if made right. I’ve been gibbed from full HP by claymores as all of these castes.
Judging from all the cope about how a queen screech can “take you out of the round in one click” (which it can’t, at least that requires the teamwork of a hive to drag you away or kill you), how is anyone able to argue this adds anything of substance to the game?
tldr; it’s bad for the game, should be removed.
@DukeofCagliostro damn you read fast
I mean OT has been left unchecked for ages just because of a simple excuse “Bro do you know how rare is OT, none plays it” yea because its not fun at all but if theres ever a good OT they can oblirate one of the two factions very easily.

Or just the inevitable nerf everything mentality.
I did not make the OT forms of damage thread to piss people off or exploit. Personally I dont look for exploits it just came about as a fun hobby of making OT casings and making fun mixes all based around my character’s love of fire. Wasnt expecting it to become super popular and in this case meta. I was just more explaining what I learned about the types of damages that can stack through trial and error. Plus the thread was just made to discuss the damages I found through experience and knowledge.
welp we do realize the issues with OT… that is why the role does not exist on HvH events
It never ends brother. Endless suffering.
I was the OT from the last HvH event that have OT on it.
Maxcap Shells were so strong Admeme stopped me from making more
I’ve said it before and I still think the idea has merit, that a possible fix for the OT is to alter how they get the chemicals needed for their varied creations.
As it stands now, most OT supplies exist in their lab at round start. The change I’d see would be to remove some of those supplies and instead scatter them around each map. I’ll fully admit that my knowledge of OT is limited so others would have to figure out the best distribution of starting vs colony supplies.
- While this would not reduce the effectiveness of each OT creation, it would reduce the initial volume of creations. For example, instead of there being 10 OT claymores at round start, they might only have the supplies to create 3 claymores.
- This would give marines a “secure supplies” objective which can take marines away from the murder ball to travel to often under utilized sections of the maps.
- This gives backliners targets to hunt who are away from the murder ball securing said supplies.
- Creates a minor gameplay loop where the OTs effectiveness is tied to the efforts of the marines who in turn get stronger by securing supplies.
- Makes it so that if marines want the super OP rockets of doom, or the brown fire grenades from hell then they have to work for it.
- And lastly, makes it so that OTs have a reason to stick around an entire round instead of waking up, making 10 rockets and then cryoing.
TL:DR Move portions of the OT’s chemicals to the planet so the marines have to put themselves at risk/work harder for OT creations.
Pretty sure this is shrapnel abuse right before the nerf, and multiple claymores stacked in one spot. Also there was someone who was exploiting placing certain items over claymores that would generate more shrapnel who got a ban recently but im not going to go back through the bans to find it lol since I read those passively. Also shrap is a bit rng. I have seen some nasty as hell Research chems lately too but thise rounds I love because of two departments working closely together.
Oh no I’m not talking about the thread itself, I can appreciate people making guides and things to help other players learn roles. I’m opposed to some of the fundamental mechanics of the role, as well as some OT players in that thread who proudly gloat about blatant bug abuse, or finding alternatives to it. Referring more to comments like this as an example:
I know it was probably just a joke, but like cmon. This mentality, and the acknowledgement that the role can intentionally inflict the same amount of damage on players as an obvious bug that has yet to be fixed, is not good for the game.
This doesn’t change the fact the mechanics of the actual things OT produces currently are blatantly unbalanced, all this does is delay the amount of time players have to be subjected to the imbalance.
If burrower traps instagibbed marines, there would probably be a lot of outrage. OT claymores are the equivalent to that, the difference is xeno players are in the minority of the community so most people don’t care. You probably don’t wanna be instagibbed for stepping in a bush, whether it’s at 00:30 or 1:20.
Remove, don’t improve.
OT should just be gluing together some scrap making IEDs to help with marine equipment shortage, if anything.
You will have this stupid fucking discussion thousand times and every single time it will be denied with a vague promise of shit getting balanced. It won’t. Chop if off like synth council was.
Literally, force the removal of OT. No more talks of balancing, no more pleas, reasonings, or whatever.
I don’t want to see even one additional single post with “solutions” to balance OT. Your ideas are garbage and even if they weren’t, nobody will ever code them in without slicing their wrist halfway trough, thus abandoning the project. No more balance, no more “improve”. Only speak of removing this shit.
This cycle has to end. Remove OT (or let them make OT nuke to explode Almayer, which then causes wreck to fall on the colony, killing both marines and xenos, obviously count it as marine major).
Then do it with stims.
Or dont touch it at all because research or OT make amazing comeback scenarios for the marines and we are here to make a great story with RP. Underdog/comeback stories are more thrilling, and be mindful that alot of rounds the OTs are not able to push there products out or research just gets garbo chems. Its like 1-2 our of 10 rounds do these things actually work.
Ah yes the beautiful comeback where xenos, after losing map control and being beaten back into hive, somehow make a comeback and wipe the front, only for marines to get godstims stims at 1:30
Sorry xenos, you made an epic comeback from like 15 xenos to wiping the marine front but 3 young crushers and 5 warriors died and research harvested their corpses so now marines have godstims.
and be mindful that alot of rounds the OTs are not able to push there products out or research just gets garbo chems
I don’t play much OT but for researchers, IOs are completely optional as long as you have a single PFC on the frontlines with JTAC comms and fultons. You don’t need chems because you can just get a hivelord/runner body and you get NST/MST.
