Ban Appeals, Whitelist and Staff Applications:

These two 6-year-old jobbans for CMP and Requisitions Officer leaving the game inappropriately were lifted.

Have you been banned in the last 3 months?

No

If so, why?

Have you read the role guidelines and expectations?

Yes

Why do you wish to become a Fax Responder?

I relate to people who suffer from their fax not getting an answer, so it is my intention to make this experience a little better for others. I also really enjoy writing in formal style and conversing via the fax machine with its long and thought-out letters, comparing it to the regular yip-yapping between the marines. I am also looking forward to being a Fax Responder, specifically Provost, because as a plat CMP I still never got an answer from them, so this is my way to explore how it is on the other side.

What do you consider the purpose of this role?

In my opinion, the purpose of a Fax Responder is to, first of all, help players act in situations where HC’s (or other authorities) approval is mandatory to proceed. I, myself, experienced several situations where I thought of going forward with some procedure involving writing a fax, like reporting a CO for breaking the Law, only to find Staffwho completely empty :frowning:

Additionally, some roles rely on fax more then others - CL and Military Police benefit from it more than a regular marine, and a possibility to communicate with their superiors makes their gameplay that much more interesting.

Fax Responders make the world around the Almayer and the AO alive, preventing the players from feeling that they are isolated and cannot interact with the world in a bigger picture. (I never talked about this with anyone, this could be just a personal concern of mine)

What is your playtime in Command Roles?

I have very little SO hours and XO is still locked for me. I do, however, have gold hours as ASO, which helped me get a grasp of CiC. I feel quite in touch with everything Command-related, even if I learnt it from a side-perspective.

What is your playtime in Military Police Roles?

Plat CMP.

What is your playtime in Corporate Liaison?

Played a little CL, but don’t remember making it past Jr. Executive.

What is your playtime in Civil Roles?

Played several rounds but didn’t find it that interesting.

What, if any, is your playtime in Special Roles?

Not yet, unfortunately haven’t had the chance yet. (Maybe I just don’t know where to turn on the preferences?)

My only real question is the most important one of all, based on the Fax Responder rules. What counts as ‘extreme circumstances’ to actually use the phone to call the Almayer?

I actually don’t think there is a situation which would require me to use the radio phone, as IMO it harms the atmosphere (why are we even using faxes if we can just call) and generally the impact of the fax responder on the round is minor.

If I had to make a call, it would be in a situation where the recipient is unable to reach the fax machine - say, the hijack went in xenos favor but the marines sent a fax reporting that. If the marines crashland on the planet and I see one of them with a radio backpack, I could call them to RP about how many of them survived and when the reinforcements could arrive for pick-up.

I dont know if we’re doing community voting on these

But I wanted to drop in to provide my endorsement for Saul going into this WL. Astra is well known to me as a reasonable and intelligent officer, especially while operating as a CMP.

I am a guest here, so I do not have as much to say in regards to their application itself, but I can place my full confidence in Astra’s legal ability, as well as command experience.

I think they would operate very well on behalf of the Provost office, and HighCom, and I trust them to wield such powers to protect the Falcons going forward

+1 for fax responder

I’ve seen Winton around and he does appear to have good RP and a good enough head on his shoulders. Plus his response to Stephens question is a good one.

If playing WY Responder, what objectives do you consider within your power to give the CL?

If playing Press Responder, what objectives do you consider within your power to give the CC?

As a WY Responder, without the Staff permission I would only consider in my power to give CL harmless objectives, that wouldn’t make them an antagonist to the marines.

To name a few :

  • Deploying to collect something interesting from the colony.
  • Copying research documents for our own scientists at WY.
  • Getting survivors (especially non-WY) to sign NDAs.

I would not consider it within my power to give such objectives without prior discussion with the Staff :

  • Stealing an egg and trying to grow an XX-121 specimen outside of Research without the Commander’s approval (Sedition).
  • Sabotaging nuclear protocol.
  • Starting a conflict with the Command, threatening shipside combat between WY and USCM.

As a Press Responder, I could shift away CC’s attention from the boring “holding camera in frontline” gameplay and give him objectives like this :

  • Collecting feedback from marines to find out how they chose their squad/breakfast this morning/some-other-stuff as a social research to create a portrait of an average marine.
  • Interviewing the survivors.
  • Taking a close-up picture of the Queen for the cover of Xogue
