Yes, and thats the problem. Having essentially two different SADARs at the start of the round, where one of them can’t be stunned, and takes 100 slashes to kill, isn’t fun to play against. And god forbid the tank FFs a marine, gibbing them instantly (if it gibs T1s from full HP, it gibs most marines as well).
The tank only comes up at 200 player pop and has to ensure he doesn’t FF the team cause that’ll fuck up the state of marine push or he can be useful and help the marines push also there is countless of buildings restricting him from pushing straight away where he needs to needing C4 (god forbid req even sends it groundside) Aswell as the fact its highly vulnerable when its alone since it can’t shoot up close. Also all xeno’s are faster than it and it turns slowly meaning you can just go around it while damaging it.
especially with the new OT buff to SADAR rockets, i was playing as a praetorian, he hit a max cap 2 tiles away from me and killed me as a warden from 650 hp instantly (i had strong warding too) so i am mad at that
at least it gets somewhat balanced if the SADAR is bald and he executed marines instead
SADAR got nerfed like last month, OT is now focused on incen and the maxcap is lessened. You’re spreading misinformation.
oh look the mainstream media factcheck is here
ot still hardstuns you forever even on a miss
so true cause your not supposed to get stunned from explosives
OT should be gutted from the game. It will never be fairly balanced, and it is painful as a Xenomorph to never know how strong or weak an explosion may be, especially if it’s an RPG.
thats like saying we should gut warrior because we can never know if he’s behind a corner as he drags a private into pits of hell and decaps him.
Research should be gutted from the game. It will never be fairly balanced, and it is painful as a Xenomorph to never know how strong or weak a stim may be, especially if Tyrone is online.
Half the marine force doesn’t know either and I’ve seen SADARs time and time again launch OT rockets WAY to close and also kill/crit Marines.
Not to mention how many times OT nades blow up the front.
“We have to remove the thing that lets players perform well solely based on their own skill and abilitys. Its much more balanced if its all predictable and little change between who plays” -overwatch dev team
One of the most balanced games, with a decade of active support, and a gameplay so boring and unfun, it is currently dying while still getting active dev support.
“Gun go brrr” - Titanfall 2 Devteam
One of the most unblanced games to hit the PvP FPS shooter market.
Only got one year of active dev support.
Still hold as one of the best FPS of all time.
Balance does not equal fun.
Research and OTs are way too different. With stimms, the effects are usually obvious and isn’t hard to figure out (if the marine is either super fast or is stun immune, they usually have stimms of some sort), but with OTs, you just get to see Sadar for a split second, if even, and then he shoots an OT rocket that gibs you 7 tiles from the center, or it’s just a wet fart because bald OT (there’s also the fact that stimms don’t come into play before AT LEAST 1 hour into the match, since it costs points to make, while OT rockets can be made about 3-6 of before first launch).
Imagine if T3s could just have some random non visible upgrade that made them insta kill marines, and the only thing holding them back would be a low skill ceiling.
Most rounds its very easy to make stims that: Makes you immortal; reproduces itself infinitly; allows you to 1v1 T2 with a knife; lets you walk through fire without damage; makes you stun immune; makes you faster then a runner; Allows you to ignore bloodloss; or simply outheals the damage that can be done to you.
All but one of those dont have an outside call card that lets xenos know its happening. Most of them cant be combined into a single chem. It is curently possible to make over a dozen viable Stims that all have diffrent full effects.
The only thing that lets xenos know that a marine is stimmed is that they go fast. Anything else the stim does, a xeno cant see.
Stims are also awful. Marines that run at incredible speed, heals the damage you take, and can cancel most stuns in 0.5 seconds, is not fun nor engaging. It does not reward skilful play.
seems like some people here have not been one shot by a random OT rocket from 6 tiles away. it’s a very enlightening experience.
Not from the marines, yes. But the researchers have to be skilled to make a good chem.
And if your thinking it takes no skill, look at the schmucks that are still unable to make a zombi chem.
All because they cant read the big bold letters on the wiki for Thanatometabolizing. That is a litterally a skill issue. Its one property you need to make a stim a zombie stim, its not hard. At all.
I can recomend a mortar shell there much more. Walking far enough away from how a normal mortar blast radius would be, only to learn its an OT shell because your now Gibed.
I persoanlly just look what magic the OT makes then, because OT really needs some learning to master. But i know im special in that regard.
Hiding how oppressive, overpowered or broken something is behind the masquerade of ‘its hard to make’ is insufficient, nor is claiming that cause marines throw bad nades a defence.
Unless your system is based on pure RNG, people will optimise your system and before you know it there will be a forum guide detailing how to make your perfect Stim/OT explosive in record time. Which is true considering there is ALREADY a forum guide detailing how to make maxcap OT explosives.
So what is the alternative to OT then? What do they do? Do they make only spec ammo, do they make slightly better ammo for marines, do they make ammo for the tank?
Also Titanfall 2 is BALLER, love that game
I like you to google “Team Fortress 2 random crits” and look what comes up as results.
Spoiler, its the communitys general and old opinion on a mecanic that influences their performance baed on RNG.
Also, its not a masquerade. It is a tried and true method of balancing to make people have to work for better performance. Just because the OT had to work instea dof the PFC, doesnt mean the work is non exsitent.
“but what about the guides?” What about them? Just because people have made guides on how to make OT explosives, that doesnt mean it doesnt take work to still make a good explosive.
Otherwise your ass would be able to run an optimal SM setup that fully takes he size of 3x4 in its entirerty. BEcause there are dozens of guides explaining you step by step how to do it. Or how to optimally run a nuclear reactor on servers that got one. Even though the on buttom to turn it on, is usually coverd by a paper that explains you how to run it optimally.
Hell, if all it took was a guide to be able to do it. You have no exccuse to not be able to know how to fully run and mantain and ACTUAL IRL nuclear reactor. Because every pice of information about how to do it, is written down and freely avalibel.
Here, have something to start with. DOE Explains...Fusion Reactions | Department of Energy
Its all writen down. So it takes no skill from your side to be able to do this. Like YOU SAID.
To reduce the fun things a role can do, is giving up. If you want OTs and Stims to be more varried and take more skill. You know, maybe give them more viable options to chose. The lack of those is the main reason why there is little diffrence.
everyone has access to random crits, though. that’s the somewhat “balanced” part about it.
on the other hand, xenos don’t have a XADAR. they don’t get their one-shot screen-wide explosion. and they sure as hell don’t know when they’re facing it OT munitions until it’s already fired. stims can be hard to gauge sometimes but the consequences of them sure as hell isn’t an instant death. here’s an example of some of the lamest shit OTs can cook up:
after having the SADAR whiff all of his AP rockets and being safely regarded as a non-threat by the hive, he pulls up with OT rockets during a siege. i should have anticipated it (somehow?). completely fair death, yep.
OT will only be acceptable when boiler globs have a random chance of becoming a HE OB, as per jebby’s implementation:
will be fair for all sides. also we have completely steered away from discussing the tank ITT
I like you to actually look at how the general community opinion is on crits. And why they dont like it. Fun fact, its the same arugments you are currently bringing against OT shit.
If your too lazy to do that, just look at how comp TF2 handels random crits and random spread.
Spoiler, largly removed. Because it is unfun to have your pefromance based on rng.
And yes, we have opend another old topic in this topic.
Currently testing my fixes to the autocannosn IFF.
Because as i said before, its not supposed to lack IFF and is feature incomplet.
If my testing goes well i link the PR.
Also, side note. Autocannon uses its own ammo. Its not really sniper flak.
Other side note:why the fuck doesnt even the tanks minigun have IFF?
