So one of my early rounds on CM had Marsoc being used at the tie breaker on Fiorina. Marsoc assuming they had IFF friendly fired each other in the first 5 seconds of their first engagement leading to 5 out of the 6 to instantly perma.
Don’t remember what happened to the last guy but moral of the story is don’t trust Marsoc to end the round. The best of the best just died like the rest even if it’s in a hilarious fashion.
Well thats only because MARSOC isn’t something that happens everyday so no one is really used to them.
If a platoon of them gets called at the 2 hour mark if marines hold for 10 mins much like King, then more people will play and get used to MARSOC and understand their strengths and weaknesses.
Marsoc is OP as fuck, better keep nuke. Just give marines incentive to use it faster, as they usually delay until the very last moment before using it.
I agree marines using nuke decrpyt to destroy hive by forcing them to assault fortified positions just to last second change their mind and go “actually now we’re not gonna set it off” sucks; as does the game of “GET ON THE FOB GET IN THE ALAMO” once it’s decrpyted which usually goes on for ~10 minutes before they actually set it off.
Potential solution; make it go off one minute after decrypt without a second activation also gives a bit of strategy in that marines may feel they need to abandon comms before decrypt is entirely finished to make it back in time.
Imo I think the nuke is fine. I’d say the way it’s used needs change. Like I’d prefer if it was dropped from orbit but say the targeting system failed cause Almayer is a rusty bucket of screws so you’d have to aim it in a different way by let’s say creating a strong signal with both relays for say radio tracking and then launch it from CIC.
Nuke won’t be removed in favour of king equivalent under current policy. Because marine vs xeno gameplay is assimetrical, head honchos think that every single thing has to be different and nothing simillar can be added.
This is why marines get nuke and xenos don’t and won’t. This is why xenos get king and marines don’t and won’t.
Pointless discussion, wait till 2026.
Why would the USCM be sending spec ops to some random back water planet to save some random backwater marines? Would make much sense if it was CBRN to deal with it.
What i don’t like about endgame mechanic
may it be nuke or anything else related to it is that people use half the round to wait for it. Don’t attack, we get nuke soon. Xeno wait for king. I don’t mind the endgame at all, but i hate we use the round afk/idle to wait for it. In my mind best thing to do is simply end the round 2h mark. Fun fact appear and it ends after 5min. Reson? We would act, not wait for it. It would promote to attack the enemy before the round timer hit. Want a ending? Go all out then or else there will not be a ending at all.
Why does a USCM thermonuclear warhead need the comm towers on some backwater shithole colony to decrypt?
Let CO/XO manually decrypt it or something, but force them to plant it deep in the caves so the endgame forces marines to push. I wouldn’t mind king being removed altogether if this was the case.
If we want asymmetry that’s fine, but make the asymmetry lead to a hive siege. Right now xeno and marine endgames lead to FOBsiege, and it just makes the whole game slop. Nuking is boring af for everyone involved.
Also move endgame back maybe by 30-60 mins. 2 hours is premature.
if you think marines will be able to push all the way to caves just because a nuke appeared after 2 hours of fighting, i don’t think you actually understand why nuke exists in the first place
For your idea to work, marines should get a marine platoon honor guard the moment they buy nuke and a large req boost.
Otherwise there is no way your bringing nuke into, say, LV caves after 2 hours of trying to breach said caves with little to no progress and only losses.
It’s really more the case that king as implemented is cancer for the game and marsoc as described would be just as bad. King should’ve never made it out of testmerge; it has been such an obviously bad design choice.
So sure, let’s see some marsoc equivalent because that’s just how this game has to be I guess. Dumb tit for tat PR changes because we can’t walk back bad choices.
I think they will be able to, since the only time marines ever successfully get a nuke is when they can win without one anyways. Literally the ONLY times ever a nuke has been successfully used to end a round, it’s when there’s 70 stimmed marines, enough cadelines to literally WO half the colony, and 12 xenos left. But instead of pushing they just afk till nuke pops, hive suicides on cades cause fuck xenos, and then by the time it blows all it kills is young xx sentinel, elder runner and a facehugger. It’s abysmally boring.
If I wanted to improve and not remove, the king would be a giant boiler that explodes the Almayer or a Queen psychic bomb that instantly kills all marines and ends the round - like an actual xeno nuke.
If you want “improve not remove” to mean “balancing the king” then we’re on totally different wavelengths here. You can’t balance what’s inherently designed to end the round faster by individually fighting marines or it doesn’t serve its purpose.
The problem is that the xeno “solution” here is just outright BAD for the game. You’re forcing players to fight something they are meant to lose against. Why on earth does anyone think that’s going to be fun? That’s only fun for the guy playing the xeno king and worse yet it doesn’t even end the round faster - you’re STILL playing out hijack for another 30 minutes on top of STILL doing the fob siege.
This was wholly and entirely implemented just so xeno players can stomp on marine players. There is no justification for its existence beyond that and it’s frankly appalling and speaks volumes to bias that nobody in the dev team has thought, hold on this is kind of ridiculous and not good for the game, let’s not do this.
It should’ve been obvious during the testmerges this doesn’t work like it was intended. Or else it actually does and everyone’s just lying about what their real intentions with it are.
Head Honcho said something about game being “assymetrical” so xenos get “assimetrical” xeno nuke. This won’t change unless head honcho changes, as with everything in CM.
King is more of “break FoB cades” than “fight indvidual marines”. Sure, it would be interesting for marines to get pretty much Doom Slayer woken up from slumber under LZ to Rip and Tear untill it is done.
And it won’t be removed untill head CM guy changes. At best you get stat tweaks.
King was proposed solution to the long slop rounds and boring hijack and we were supposed to shut up about that untill he rolls out. I predicted that it will fail, but hey, who cares.
