That’s not what happened. He said “I imagine you convulse violently on the floor when somebody in-game cannot directly identify your 2D pixel sprite as female”
He went out of his way to type out that trans-focused attack. If he did not want to talk about trans people he could have just focused on the actual topic of the conversation instead of choosing this to focus on. This is not a matter of him just having a disagreement that happened to be with a trans person.
Also from what staff have said it sounds like he only got a forum ban for that, the cban came due to other things he said afterwards in Council discord apparently. I agree it’s not entirely clear why it was escalated all the way to a cban but let’s not act like his behavior wasn’t HIGHLY questionable.
Highly qeustionable behaviour, and definetly warranted some administrative action but Cban was over the top, since there wasnt really anything OUTRIGHT transphobic. Its very suggestive, because of the topic that so happened to be present during this whole denouncement of ‘I dont care about you’.
This comment, from what I understand doesnt denounce their gender identity, or attack them for being a transgender/come off as transphobic.
To me, saying that sounds like they simply dont give a shit about anything they have to say, which just so happened to be them being trans. Being an ass and transphobic are different things, it just so happened that they were being an ass when Arty asked them to be referred as ‘she’.
I hope I dont sound like im arguing with anyone right now…
I think I kinda agree. As I said in an earlier post I doubt Misti actually hates trans people, I think he just hates Arti and wanted to say something hurtful.
But if you really want to attack someone maybe just call them stupid or something instead of making a trans-specific attack. I feel like I shouldn’t have to explain this but even if you’re not explicitly, directly insulting them for being trans, painting a trans person as hysterical and crazy for pointing out they were misgendered is playing into common hateful stereotypes and can easily be viewed as transphobic.
That’s like, the exact reason this happened if I had to guess. I’m fucking obnoxious and I’m not quiet about being a member of several groups on half the planet’s chopping block: my feelings may honestly be hurt if someone didn’t take offense to how cool and special and unique I am. This is a joke for the people that can't take those: just making it clear.
I think the biggest part of why so many people have labeled me as someone who baits bans and interaction is because I’ll say something queer or ask someone to stop doing something that’s annoying/hurtful, and if that doesn’t work I typically just report them. When it’s the other way around, they immediately go into identity politics and attack me as a queer woman or a person rather than a shithead or peer in a cooperative space and catch flak for doing so.
As you can see, Google got me these results in slightly more than half a second. People existing isn’t political. It’s respectful to not focus on other people’s bodies, so when you ask a woman with a pronounced stomach how long she’s been pregnant and she tells you she isn’t: Going off into a tirade about how sensitive women are and why they aren’t attractive if they’re over a certain weight makes you a dickhead, not a warrior.
“Oops, sorry, I thought you were Chinese. It was bad of me to assume, please forgive me as I correctly call you Korean now, I know you’ve dealt with that a lot.”
“I tried to say African American to be respectful, I didn’t know you were Jamaican and it was my mistake for equating all black skin to Africa. I’ll do better.”
“Sorry, I don’t have many Jewish friends so I didn’t think to have kosher food around for the party. Is there anything I can grab from the store real quick?”
“I didn’t know you had so much weight because of a glandular problem, not an undisciplined lifestyle around food and exercise. Maybe I shouldn’t judge people on parts of their life I don’t know the context of.”
“How was I supposed to guess your pronouns? Everybody else here is a man, what makes you special? I don’t believe in your nonsense, stop forcing me to!”
If you’re dying on the hill of pronouns we could all move on and maybe leave some flowers for you. Fortunately you’re still alive, and are capable of change, and don’t need to go off on political tangents about what makes someone a good trans person or which groups do or don’t arbitrarily deserve respect, which seems like a lot more effort than respecting everyone and rescinding that respect from individuals after they breach it, like here:
If you already can’t take slightly more than half a second to Google something, hover over something, shift-click, or take an astonishing few-seconds-to-a-minute to ask before stepping on someone’s toes: why are you surprised when they shove you off of their foot?
Again, please, refrain from using analogies, because they prove nothing and only derail the discussion, but I don’t think it’s very respectful to shove someone for accidentally stepping on your toes. I also think it’s very weird and not really respectful to expect people to be apologetic towards you for whatever reason.
Personally, I don’t ever shift click someone unless i wanna know what they are equiped with. If I can’t tell what gender you are from your name+appearance, then you are either androgynous, or simply look like the opposite gender. Hell, i thought river was female since they came to, and just last month i got to know they were male. And there was nothing really wrong with that, imo.
Everybody has an identity. Everybody is political. They came free with your existence. Stating you don’t care about other’s identity is identifying yourself as secure in your own which aligns with your conservative politics where you don’t want to update your language because you encountered someone of a background that challenges your worldly beliefs.
Analogies are helpful because it’s worth a shot to try to alter something into something more relatable in case “don’t be a shithead to people you don’t know” is too slippery of a concept to grasp despite the fact that a good chunk of kindergartners can handle it, before someone tries to willfully misinterpret one like “uh, some kindergartners are still bullies” only showing that they still recognize those kids as bullies who do harm to others which is bad. Uh-oh, analogy! Now you don’t have to bother listening to me because I did the Appeal to Anal Fallacy or whatever!
I’ve been rarely banned because when I have a problem with someone, I target their speech and not them, and report them like a grown woman. I don’t do it because I respect them, or because I like them, I do it because that’s the social contract we should all be beholden to and I’d want the same thing in return: golden rule and all that horseshit. I have been banned multiple times from here and other servers because I’ve breached that social contract in ways that negatively affected others, and took my time to sit my ass down, think on it, and then apologize for what I did like a grown woman. The best part is I didn’t even need to apologize to the people I fucked-over: I just had to agree that it was a mean thing to do to anybody in general!
Getting banned and staying banned is a skill issue. I’m glad I’m finally better than others at something about CM.
Last post in this thread, have fun playing with the bones at the bottom of the KFC bucket, try not to fight over those too.
You should have taken the time with the few seconds you saved googling by googling politics.
Ill save you more time.
“the activities associated with the governance of a country or other area, especially the debate or conflict among individuals or parties having or hoping to achieve power.”.
This is you, being political by being active in the politics of the server, by attempting to change the way we enforce rules, punishments, and make decisions on our server (ie the governence of “other area”) based on things you identify with and find important.
Existing as a person isnt political, asking for respect isnt either, demanding we change the rules ban people and upheave how we did things…is.
