Trend of lobbing nades into marine groups to kill xenos and then bandaging marines

Maybe there should be some kind of, you know, penalties for lobbing grenades at friendlies? It’s becoming standard to:
Lob explosive ordinance at the bodies of those you want to revive. Imagine if it actually damaged them and forced marines to go fetch the overly unga?
Make ff explosions have a higher-ish chance of fraccing, just watched a GL straight up nade a group of marines to kill a spitter. Twice. Spitter died, marines all walked off.

While we’re at it, the meta of flaming fucking everything and then extinguishing the friendlies afterwards seems.. well, if I was a marine and my crewmate set me on fire, I’d probably feel a certain way about the anguish of burning alive, even if it is just for 20-30 seconds.

Come to think of it, I’d feel a certain way about a friendly lobbing explosive devices at my feet. Or waking up from being unconscious to find that I had severe damage because some ree hick marines thought the best way to recover a thing intact was to throw explosives at it.

it does but grenades have something called ‘falloff’ and outside of being directly adjacent to a HEDP it isn’t going to do much damage to you

this also means it doesn’t do much damage to xenos outside of the stun (the real killer)
if you make HEDP strong enough to harm marines at that range it will fucking nuke xenos into hell

nobody does this unless they’re 1. new, 2. griefing, 3. make a mistake

it does but again HEDP has falloff so as to not make it comedically overpowered against xenos

for any of these to work they’d just make whatever you don’t like about them not happen in exchange for it instantly killing everything else

this is a bit misleading as you can just as easily nerf light armor’s bomb prot (currently MEDIUM [20]) instead of buffing HEDPs directly.

Wait, while checking the code, light armor actually has MORE BOMB ARMOR than medium armor (15 vs 20). I should probably toss up a PR to change that.

For those wondering, heavy armor has HIGHPLUS (35) bomb armor.

Yeah, I use light armor and i expect it to be weak, the trade off is huge kiting potential. Having higher bomb armor than medium seems fishy.

I do think that the explosions from the HEDP should have a higher chance for fractures, cause when i run grenades i do absolutely use them freely to save squad members. Not sure if fracture potential is something that can be easily changed, but it would be nice.

As for flamers… eh? I think they’re fine honestly.

I mean, isn’t minimal damage but a nice stun basically EXACTLY what suits marines best for tactics like this?

if you can find a better way to recover a body without also exposing yourself to the funny insta hardstun woyer that sends you to brazil with no counterplay,

you let us know

if you can THINK of a better way
code it in, the game is open-source for a reason

I’ve seen this done as a strategy for either denying captures sometimes. I would say that it’s not frequent for alive Marines to be purposedly burnt alive.

It is more common though for flames to be used to gain ground to recover dead body/bodies, but that’s a different topic. Same for incendiary OBs/Mortars. I also see people using nades to force bodies to be flung closer, but as others have stated, there’s not many other options in those circumstances as people who go to recover said bodies, often don’t return.

Not saying it in support or criticism of it, and I altered my original stance due to misinterpreting the original message.

Making FF stronger is kind of a wild take considering it wouldn’t solve any of the “issues” you described

Even if grenade explosions fracced the shit out of people I’d still use them to fish bodies. Any amount of damage is preferable to a competent marine going perma.

A kill is still worth significantly more than a dead marine. Marines can be revived, xenos cannot.

As for fire… I’m not exactly sure where you got “20-30 seconds” from, as it stands people pretty much die in 4-10 seconds flat from military grade fire. No one would let someone burn for that long, but regardless the rule of thumb still applies here- A burnt dead marine is worth getting a xeno kill.

While purposefully nuking people is bad, if it secures a kill it’s worth it, so long as you didn’t perma the fuck out of someone. FF happens, sometimes the idiot blocking the kill deserves to be stunned with HEDP so the sentinel can die, sometimes you need to HEDP the poor marine being dragged by the woyer to save them and kill it.

Making FF worse without making it perma will not change the base incentive, while making accidental FF instances incredibly cancer. It’s simply not a good idea- It doesn’t solve anything, it just makes the gameplay experience strictly worse (though more funny if you’re playing xeno).

You know its hilarious when one of those grenades ends up being one of my max range flame OT nades. Just watching as a ghost as the whole of the marine front gets cooked like a bbq grill. Charflame grilled marine express.

explosions should give you “deep shrapnel” that requires a deep scanner and a surgical table to remove, and even after removing it it permanently caps your max health, and if you enter an MRI the magnets tear you into pieces

oh also maybe add some mechanics for grenades in game I guess

Imagine a friendly throwing HEDP in a choke with 20 people

CRACKCRACKCRACKCRACKCRACKCRACKCRACK

the sound alone would be terrifying

Pretty much sums it up. That being said i have as Pryo flamed alive and well friendlines in the way on very select situations. There has been times i needed to green fire wall a queen + hive assault to stall it out and on rare Occasions there is marine in the way so i just say fuck it better to halt the xeno push and just extinguish the fire on the lad… after all green fire doen’t do much damage anyhow.

Its balanced as it is. HEDPs are a rare commodity unless you’re GL spec so using it to save someone is already pretty expensive resourceswise.
I dont see any problem at all.

If you want you can code a rope for medics and make them cowboys but retrieving someone from tiles away infinitely is pretty OP.

is HEDP really that rare? A box of it starts in Req, pretty much every vendor in the game can buy it.

As a pyro main I will sometimes shoot marine who are grabbed by woyors. It’s mostly out of pure reaction but yeah it happens. But to this day not a single person cared cause they did not get capped. I have even set myself on fire for the same reason.

damn people really defending a mechanic that removes agency and balance from the game

thats crazy

hedp is fine but not really gls tbh But i dont rly think its a big issue at all

Lets not mention the obscene amount of HEDP XOs can vend in their office

Its a limited commodity. Runs out pretty fast if you are a very active GL spec.
Also no one buys HEDP as a PFC or any role at all most of the time (except for GL).
who buys HEDP as XO roundstart?
