Name of the Synth Character you wish to play:

Myrrah

What is your Synthetic’s Personality?

A helpful, compassion-minded Synthetic happy to jabber on about medicine, the implications of it’s advancement upon man, and possibly even posture questions of ‘Where do you think humanity begins?’ in a sort of ‘Am I a real girl?’ way.

How will they react to the different ranks of the USCM, what would they talk about in a one on one conversation? What are their interests? What is an advertisement logline that could be written for them?

Myrrah is the newest innovation in emergency medical extraction technology! Whether you’re a private Captain hauling asteroid metalloids, or a Colonial Marine division unwilling to settle for their favorite shade of birds getting anything less than the best, Myrrah is made for you! Capable of making snap-decisions in approximately 12 picoseconds, independent studies, and private interests alike are enjoying a 72% reduction in casualties ranging from workplace accidents, to horrifying, eldritch encounters at the edge of the universe.

Why do you want to be a synthetic/why should we whitelist you?

I really, really enjoy the medical roles in this game, and am wanting to broaden my roleplay horizons from Nurse/Doc/Corpsman/DCC

What is your most memorable interaction with a synthetic?

So, we retreat on the Alamo, with Willard onboard. We’d been tag-teaming injuries all shift, until we get boarded, and hold out in the briefing hall for 20 or so minutes before we’re overwhelmed – We fight the doglizards, the Marines die, I die, we do not laugh. I guess in this, Willard had escaped? So I ghost and watch, figuring the end of round will come soon – UNTIL I’M NOTIFIED SOMEONE IS REVIVING ME. IT’S FUCKING WILLARD. WILLARD RETURNS, REVIVES ME, AND FIREMAN CARRIES ME TO CIC FOR SAFETY, WHILE URGING ME TO BE QUIET. It was a really memorable, and sort of heroic experience.

Synthetic Character Story:

The sun hung low above the firebase, it’s rays dizzyingly reflected off of the fractured pieces of what remained of the barriers; Reality was setting in, and the bodies were piling up. Realistically, they only had a few minutes, paced by the chittering, creaking, and otherworldly hissing of their foes. Held to schedule by such horrible timekeepers, only kept at bay by brave (or perhaps outright stupidly foolish) sons and daughters drafted up from backworlds and back alleys alike, just to squeeze triggers and pray.

“Neurogenic shock.” Myrrah chimes, her hands working in a pale blur. “Soto. Please put onboard: 30mg MiraBica, 30mg Dylovene, 30mg Inaprovaline,30mg Dee-Plus.” Lifting her eyes from her work but for a second, half of which was spent observing her companion for the hour, whom had been of quantifiable assistance – Specifically speeding Myrrah’s work by sixty-eight percent with her efficiency. She could not help but feel…responsible? Not indebted, and not exactly
feel’, but…Myrrah could not dwell on this. With a slice, spread of her hand, and application of a patch, it was time to cauterize and move on to the next flatlined human, devoid of pulse.

“I am unsure we will be able to operate quickly enough to keep up with this rate of casualties.” Myrrah sighs, readying her tools. “Soto. Please give 15mg Tramadol, 15mg Bicaridine, 15mg Keloderm.” Another. “Soto. Please push 15mg Oxycodone, prepare to MedEvac.” Soto. Soto. Soto. It felt routine, even to a synthetic – A self-aware creature, one supposedly too logical to be ‘caught in the moment’. Yet, here she was…

Strapped in to the Alamo, operating. “Soto. Please push --” Her hands fall still. Eyes narrow downward, away from the split thoracic cavity. Away from everything that looked the same inside each human – Every pulsing sac, and liver full of bile. Every stirring intestine, and every lung with a pin-needle hole from a rib fracture. Eyes set upon the face, Myrrah recalls. The gunshot. The screaming, unknown creature, and its desperate flail which painted the Alamo’s cabin red.

“Soto. I will push 30mg Bicaridine. 30mg Tramadol. 30mg…”

Skills:

Engineering:

Fairly. I’ve been a MT, OT, and CT.

Command:

Somewhat? It’s hard to get into with experienced XOs and POs.

Medical:

EXTREMELY.

Requisitions:

Somewhat. I haven’t really been taught.

What are some scenarios that you can perform combat in? Give us a brief example.

I believe it’s only if my life, and whoever I’m caring for, is in irrevocable, unavoidable danger? Synths aren’t supposed to fire weapons, but the rules later state they may defend themselves, or brandish a weapon?

Final Info:

Have you been banned from CM in the last month for any reason? Do you have any active jobbans?

Nope!

Are you currently banned from our Discord?

Nope!

Let us know why you were discord banned.

Too funny, too valuable, never banned.

Do you have anything else you would like to include about your application?

I tried very hard, please appreciate my art project

I would strongly suggest reviewing accepted applications for a general idea of what we’re looking for. The story is mostly meant to showcase an example of the character in a scenario which emphasizes their speech and mannerisms. Typically this takes 3-4 pages of text to accomplish sufficiently. Combat scenarios should be a statement showcasing you understand the rules governing use of force, rather than questions.

If you have questions that you would like to pose and refine for a future application, feel free to use the DM system or discord application help channel.

That feels a little silly when the application states it ‘doesn’t need to be long’, and defines no length. I’m unsure how this doesn’t meet requirements, given that it characterizes very well, and does utilize speech, though not at incredible length because it’s a tense situation. I’m unsure what the concern is?

Also, I don’t mean any kind of snips or pricks to be taken, text doesn’t transfer tone very well.

Synthetic Personality & Interactions

  • To be quite frank this doesn’t really tell me much about your synthetic. “Helpful doctor” only goes so deep in terms of a personality, and I think you’d quickly find yourself playing a self insert with such a vague personality, as you wont really have much to RP around, and without direction in your RP that’s kind of what it naturally devolves into. Think about what sorts of things your synthetic would be interested in and what they care about, past the fact that they’re a toaster and playing the Pinocchio bit of being a real boy, while that can be good in moderation I don’t think it’d work as a personality all on its own. You want to have your synthetic be known as a character, with multiple different facets and traits, and right now I’m not sure your synthetic has that.
In terms of your interactions with different USCM ranks, what you’d talk about in a conversation, and what your synthetic interests are, you haven’t provided anything for these sections, and they’re a requirement for the synthetic application. Also yes Willard is very based.

Synthetic Story

  • I’ll be honest and say I did enjoy the writing itself here, you seem to have a good grasp on how to write a story. However, it’s far too short, and the personality of your synthetic isn’t expressed at all to be frank. All I see is you coldly saying what medicine should be applied to the patient. There isn’t enough dialogue to properly demonstrate your synthetic either. I advise throwing in some normal conversation, or at least close to it, with somebody like a squad marine. It’s one of the best ways to express what is ‘normal’ for your synthetic. Most synth players won’t have time to express their personality while there is a medical emergency which is understandable, but that makes it not a good example of their character. I also might add that your synth wouldn’t feel ‘responsible’ or anything like that. As obvious as it may seem, synthetics don’t feel. Your synth wouldn’t be affected by this in the slightest, nor would they have to stop themselves from dwelling on it. At the end of the day a synthetic is a machine.
Also, if “put onboard” means to inject the patient, you would have overdosed them on Meralyne and Dex+, with the Dex+ overdose being a critical OD, which makes me think you may not be as “EXTREMELY.” experienced at medical as you claim.

Skills & Combat

  • None of the answers for the skills section are detailed enough. None of your answers tell me what areas you’re strong in really, surgery, chemline, mascas, comms, I have no idea. You should write more here and tell me what parts of these roles you enjoy, how you’ve experienced them, whatever you wish, as long as the council can get a good idea of your experience in those roles. If you truly enjoy them, this shouldn’t be very hard, and if you don’t, then you wont enjoy synth. For command, as long as you’re familiar with how to work things like swipers and the tacmap, and a bit of SO you’re alright. You’ll also need to be familiar with req to play synth, as while synthreq rounds are rare (and boring), they do occur so you need to be prepared for this. Req is pretty easy though, you’ll pick it up in no time.
For your combat answers, or rather answer, it’s not really correct. There are a lot more stipulations to synth combat than just if you are going to die or not, and the fact that you end both sentences with a question mark makes me think you’re not that sure about synth combat restrictions, which is an extremely important part of the whitelist. Synth combat violations are very bad, and they can get you removed from the WL pretty quickly if you stack them up quickly, which I think you might do if you were given the WL due to your not understanding combat rules. I advise looking into parts on frontline combat, delta alert, and defending yourself from marines. If you decide to reapply, its good to provide examples of when you would and wouldn’t engage in combat in certain scenarios.

In conclusion, the application needs a lot of work. You seem like you want the WL and this application seems to me to have some passion put into it, especially with the story and the emotion in your interaction with Willard. I heavily advise giving a visit to both the WL help channel in the CM discord and the DMs of synth councilors. They signed up to help people like you and I get the synth WL, and the best part is we don’t even pay them, they do it for free. The application needs a lot more time in the oven, and so do your support skills in my opinion as I’ve said before in this post, and also I haven’t ever seen you in game, never mind a support role. While you being seen prior to your application being submitted is arguably one of the less important aspects to the application as people will go out of their way to look out for you while your app is up, it still helps.

TLDR: DM synth councilors and use the WL help channel please.

I was just giving medical measurements, the drugs are made up, though I am an OR nurse out of the server. Game is fiction, and that shouldn’t really be taken as anything but author’s liberty. I also wrote the story to be smaller in scale, as I was unsure of the desired scale, the application stating ‘it doesn’t need to be very big’ – This implied to me that it also needed to only be deep enough to give scope on how the character concept functions in practice.

I guess I kind of understand the concern, but the requirements seem both simultaneously ‘rules are written’ and ‘lol vibes’ based, which is kind of sad to see. I must be a good writer, deeply understand every facet of the server (despite most people being happier to bite your nose off than help), but also be ‘visible’. The synth must have a personality in great detail, but it’s also acknowledged that it won’t be very expressed in an emergency. There’s a lot of diametrically opposed ideas in the requirements.

I’ll reapply in a month, though I won’t lie, this does feel like ‘you must be a part of the club’ crossed with ‘who do you know here?’.

Hi VonSartre and thank you for your interest in the Synthetic Whitelist.

Based on the content in your application, I would like to say that there is much refinement that you can do. The personality can be elaborated on, although its a good start.

The interactions section only really shows an advertisement - we would like to see the difference of how your Synthetic interacts with different ranks onboard the ship.

I’m happy to hear that you like medical roles. Medical entails the primary duties of any Synthetic, but right there alongside it is a strong RP focus. Synthetic IS undoubtly the ultimate support role. It is also the highest standard of any USCM role as a result of that - in all regards of mechanical competency and RP.

On your story, it starts off good but I am a little concerned about the third paragraph. Is your Synthetic becoming fatigued? It would be a serious liability and I sure hope that’s not the case! Synthetics emulate human emotion solely for the sake of trying to emulate emotion - they do not desire any of the drawbacks which are associated with emotion, instead, you are one of the most efficient assets that the USCM has to offer. That piece aside, it’s important that there is varied dialogue in your storyline, so that we can get a feel of how your character interacts within the story.

Your experience answers are very lacking, and I was quite shocked to see a one word answer for Medical. Keep in mind, you can always elaborate more in this section. I want to know what procedures you know, how many patients you can handle, what techniques you use to save people and how to triage during an MCI. Etcetera. You can go on and on, just explain to me what you know about each skill, not just a word.

The combat answer is unfortunately insufficient, you did not adequately explain the way Synthetic programming works in regards to combat.

Outside of this section, our observations of you found that you are insufficiently experienced in relevant support roles. As a result, this application is unfortunately denied - but you may reapply starting 7/13/24. Before you do - I highly recommend that you get additional experience in all relevant support roles(ComTech, Corpsman, Doctor/Surgeon, etc.) We highly stress the importance of being extremely confident in all aspects when it comes to becoming a Synthetic. Every Synthetic is mechanically competent, extremely reliable and maintains an immersive character.

Now with your application out of the way, I will try to answer some of your concerns.
There is no defined length for a Synthetic story so long as it adequately describes your personality traits and how your character may interact in a regular round. As a result your story can be anywhere from 1 page to 80. That being said, you usually will only use 1.5-3 pages.

An ideal Synthetic personality should have multiple layers, a surface level where the minimal dialogue will maintain a character while a more intensive HRP level can really peel the layers back and express a heavy character development. CM has multiple phases with its pacing, so it’d be unrealistic to have deep discussions while treating 3 people on the frontline. All levels are possible, just at different points in the game. You will stay at a MRP level usually, while dipping into HRP when you have more time (ie during a relaxed surgery or setting up barricades).

As for your last concern, community support / vetting is really only there as a support. Your application, your performance, and your observed gameplay is what factors into the most in any application - without these, you cannot pass, even if you have support.

I hope this feedback along with that given by S5nt is helpful to you. Best of luck!
