What makes good CL rp?

We are all aware some CLs are a bit…off.

Either acting bizarre enough you have no idea how they got the job, attempting to force papers down the captains throat or like they have a tank of sharks under a trap door in their office because they think themselves a bond villain.

So my question is, what do you think makes good quality CL rp? Does it differ depending on seniority?

Giving something to do for the shipside personnel. I loved interacting with CL as OT by having them buy custom OT nades off me and later hearing explosion upstairs near CL office. Or even once CL offered me money to advertise/ label nades as W-Y explosive. Or another typical thing is messing around with QM and Blackmarket

In reality sky’s the limit

Being unique, but not obnoxious.

You are not richymcrich who towers over the peasants. You are some random executive.

Wanna be a nepo baby? go for it. Wanna be a annoyed and burnt out executive that hates their superiors? sure. Wanna be power hungry and constantly looking for a promotion? go for it.

Basically, have a reason for whatever you are doing, and have your character be believable.

The hook for me and dealing with CLs is the banality of evil.

A CL isn’t evil cause theyre a mustache-twirling villain, they’re evil cause theyre just a paper-pusher for a universe-spanning corporation that at a macro scale does some pretty fucked up things.

If a CL walks up to be as CO and is blatantly evil there is very little RP I can do with you. You’re meant to be the “reasonable” one in the room that gets the USCM to agree with the Company. If all you do is antagonize and cause problems you’re just going to be ignored. You can have ulterior motives, but if at their face they’re FULLY against the ideals of the USCM or UA you’re just going to be laughed at and disregarded.

Also like to make your own contracts and documents, I’m not signing copy-print. They’re good for simple things but man do some need work imo. And that’s coming from someone who has to deal with NDAs on the daily.

Probably a sign of how doomed the role is - if you’ve asked twice: What makes good liason RP? CIC mains wanted.

Work WITH command not against. Most CLs fail because of this. They waltz into CIC and scream don’t OB the colony!! like, yeah okay that’s going to happen lol. You gotta spin it. Like, ‘Hey IF you OB the colony let me know so we can work on a cover story together, the company is going to fire me if i let you OB willy nilly.’ this is working with command, and thier more likely to go along with it. You gotta work with people to get anywhere. Then this gives you an RP in like. “Okay so you OB’d medical…clearly the clf terrorist planted mining charges and took it out. Ima go tell the company this place is compromised by CLF”

Also stop threatening to call the PMCs on a fully armed USCM ship, it sounds goofy as hell and you don’t know what a deathsquad is. At best you’re coming off like a foaming at the mouth lunatic, at worst you’re asking to be brigged for making threats.

A good CL rolls with the punches. Check out the backlog of videos of Randolph P. Checkers played by Tex of the Black Pants Legion. It is how I model my CL character.

Speaking of WY, I’ve noticed bodyguards trying to be antagonistic as possible towards MPs, they should stop sabotaging their CL’s negotiations by being so rude.

You’ll have the CL speaking with some officer, and the bodyguard will be arguing in the background with the MPs over some trivial stuff, and getting pissy.

“You can’t talk”

“Yes I can!!! You poopy head!”

“No you can’t!!!”

I’ve seen this happen multiple times and it’s such low RP for that to be surrounding the higher RP conversations. I’d expect more mature conversations.

Thinking back on all the moments I have witnessed and loved the CL’s performance…..they were all pretty antagonistic. Taking an alpha egg and getting WY to train/take it off the ship. Planting bugs in CIC and getting lawyers to defend. Trying to control research and the firefight that ensued. Taking a single piece of intel. Implants in unsuspecting marines. Getting research to make crazy chems. Handing ultrazine to those who then had to sign their soul to them just to stay alive.

CL can do nothing for marines. Not a single damned thing. As such, most ‘positive’ conversations are just….kinda forgettable. Just take Ceyella’s example:

Cool, you had a few forgettable lines with CIC. You didn’t change a thing for what the CIC was going to do. Just some vanilla flavor text to go along with a preset plan. Your later fax will either never be received or will have some response that won’t affect the round. On a rare chance admins will play along with something like that and send a PMC squad for you guys to plant ‘CLF evidence’ and leave. I actually prefer the former CL in that example. He can now try to evaluate the cost of the OB’s damage that ‘WY disagreed to’ and attempt to sue command for the excessive damage to the colony. Send a fax and admins have something to make an event out of. Recruit the CC to take photos and video of the destruction. At least now the CL has a mission to accomplish.

It’s all about escalation man, COs know how wild I can be. This was the example for HOW TO GET STARTED. Not the only thing you do lmao. Have fun antagging the XO and jut getting kicked out of CIC and spinnin in a chair in your office for an hour. That’s if they don’t ignore you or brush you off for being a jerk. Workin with CIC gets you further and gets more done. I’ve offered my bodyguard as an off the books interrogiation specialist before and gotten clf in my CL cell, then gave them the mind control implant and had them go after intel to hide what the companies done. It’s about RP not trolling.

Ehh…I still think being upfront but professional about it is still an alright way, but your way is definitely cool too. In the end like in your example though, the best part is being able to turn it into an antag situation. If you just loaned out the bodyguard and he did some aggressive interrogation and left, it would be alright but nothing memorial. Using the situation to have a CLF do whatever you want remotely is what elevates it to a memorial scenario.

From this it seems, the coolest CL is the one who seems to be a normal businessman with good connections who manages to antag when you are not looking. I think many would struggle to find what opportunities they can use while doing that normal professional RP and end the round doing nothing but your first part, but eh, that’s what makes someone good at the role.

For others, just follow bob cross’s example and make an underground boxing ring.

I frankly forgot I had asked.

Oh well. Engagement.

I think the safest way to play a Liaison is being a spineless slimeball.

You work for the largest mega-corporation in human history but in a relatively unimportant role. You should be looking for ways to get your superiors notice and generally doing anything you can to advance your career, especially if you’re just a junior executive.

You’re on the corporate ladder, baby. Everyone else is just a step on the way to your promotion!

– not to say that there aren’t other ways, or better ways, but I think this is generally the crux of being a good Liasion. You keep your superiors happy and balance your own agenda with that objective, whatever your agenda may even be. That being said, sometimes intentionally being the moron CL that (for example) gets arrested for something stupid can be fun roleplay, provided it doesn’t break the rules.

I have seen a lot of bodyguards interject on command comms. Stay in your lane.

Is the role worth giving a try? I’m looking at its wiki, and it seems a bit directionless. You can’t influence the round; no one except your bodyguards and maybe researchers would have to listen to your advice or suggestions. Money is kind of useless. The role appears to be for talking other people’s ear off, lol.

It is a sandbox roll. the world is your oyster!

The amount of bodyguards who immediately shit all over my CL plans makes me not want to play the role. They act like thier your boss or just sell you out to command.
