Thank you very much!

Having played a number of rounds with A.S.S, I don’t see how this would change cohesion any more than fireteams did.

The new squad system doesn’t address why marines ungaball to begin with: Queen screech. I understand Kilo/Oscar gigaflanks are soul and high roleplay but let’s not pretend it’s anything other than a scheme to convert brightly coloured marines into caps.

Almost a decade ago the four squad system was made to have four squads doing four different things. Over time they melded together (except Bravo) because squads cannot operate independently when a screen-wide stun exists.

Wasn’t this tried with fireteams? Wasn’t this tried with Echo? Wasn’t this tried almost a decade ago? Players always gravitate back to the ungaball to have a chance at fighting the Queen entourage.

There needs to be foundational changes to offweed frenzy into screech into drag caps. I’ll also point out it’s not Xeno players’ fault for doing it either. Ravager is the only actual T3, and none of the frontliners can operate independently because they all need pheromones to actually play the game.

I hate to be a hater but I just don’t see how A.S.S. would work in the long run.

Genius idea. just rotate the Alpha/Delta/Charlie every round in and out of assault group size.

brilliant, incur the wrath of players of not just one, but THREE of the legacy squads

As someone who’s been advocating for the more prominent fireteams for years, I think it’s important to properly understand their role…

Fireteams are not tactical level units, but squad level ones. At the most basic level marines can always bring 3-4 rifles onto a single target in the open. And if those people are a coordinated unit, they’re just gonna perform way better than the CMs typical ragtag line. But within the normal squad system(and the unga ball) a fireteam is also small enough to pull out of the line when needed, rearm and heal up. Also it takes some pressure from the Squad Leader, who can focus on his other duties. That’s the theory. In practice we’re really struggling with implementing it, due to the playerbase just being what it is.

Now, squads are the tactical level assets, and while it’s important to keep in mind how perilous splitting the marine ungaball is, never splitting marines is not the perfect solution either, because there are many tactical situations where the ungaball loses by default and it’s up to command to do something before that happens. And doing some kind of a maneuver is one of those things.

So with that in mind, the rule of thumb is that a single normal squad, while dug in, can defend a single direction from the majority of the hive. The size of the normal squads allows them to take some attrition, which would almost inevitably happen, but also accounts for a certain percentage of players just not following the orders at all.

Finally, lets talk the new “Support” squads. Since they’re so small it becomes somewhat of a priority for command to keep them alive. You really don’t want them in the vanguard early on, because they can’t really take any attrition and thus they’re gonna be naturally given some kind of a “work on the sidelines” order. And then command just has to hope that the SL won’t decide to “interpret” that order as “we will flank the hive alone in the dumbest manner” or someone in the chain manages to catch him in time and talk sense\sack\ahelp him. If none of that happens those squads can very quickly become ineffective just if they get caught by a couple of xenos on a bad rotation. Or I’ve even seen them die to a single bad grenade. So this is more work for command to maybe fold the remainder into something else later on.

Thus basically it’s a lot of fuss over just grandfathering the old Echo into the system. Just now it’s Kilo, but played by the same people. And at least they’re trying to demonstrate their usefulness and play nice for now. But I halfway expect some kind of a rule change later down the line basically banning anyone in command from giving any orders to those “Support” squads.

oh the “As a Alpha main for many years, I really don’t like how ASS kneecaps us for no reason and we are . . .” post would be GLORIOUS. It would incur wraith that would just be great for the individual meme of how each Squad main sees themself.

WHAT? Delta changed from 1/4 of the marine force exclusive “members only” club “UNGA DUNGA” to not think and just charge into danger (which is Delta culture that has been ruined with additional SG and spec) was changed to like peasant club of like 2/5 of marine force? As a Delta main and delta sort of a side of the front Slug PFC main (I don’t want to be that in ASS, too many marines in delta and kilo and oscar have different color), for many, many years I really don’t like how ASS ruined our rich culture.

Delta Pride Word Wide.

Bravo limited slots lame as fuck otherwise ok PR i guess

Still debating on whether or not Bravo should be limited, I would just hate for it to mess up the proportions we currently have by uncapping it.

It’s worth testing it. I don’t think uncapping Bravo is going to give them that many more marines. Maybe like one or two extra riflemen a round compared to limited bravo

I’ll talk to Nivrak about it when he wakes up.

In all seriousness, please bring back Tango squad and remove Charlie. It is depressing to see the current state of Charlie during the ASS TM and you might as well do the full rework.

Unless there was sweeping widespread support for this move (including players and management), it will never happen.

I’m a complete dummy, have quick read this thread and haven’t even read the ASS TM, but what does removing Charlie and adding Tango do exactly? Would this not effectively and literally just be changing the name of a squad?
