Yes

AET UTC+11 / AEST UTC+10 (yes it changes)

25 hours, more or less. I tend to play at least 2 rounds a day, one of which I might spend observing

Qualifications:

Do you have previous experience in game or community moderation?

I’m fairly well practiced in community moderation through various game-related discord servers over the years.

Provide any links to any previous CM-SS13 whitelist, mentor or staff applications:

Have you ever been banned for more than 24 hours on CM-SS13?

No

Can you actively engage and communicate with the team through Discord?

Yup

Final Details:

Why would you like to join the CM-SS13 staff team?

I aspire to be a moderator that can protect a community I adore so much, and hope for the chance to give back to the fine folks that have made CM such an amazing place for so many years.

After being a part of CM for what is quickly approaching a decade, I believe I owe it to everyone who opened their arms to welcome me as a friend (even if I was a mediocre Corpsman at best), and to lend a hand in maintaining a game/community we all hold near and dear.

What makes you a great addition to Staff? (Experienced Tabletop DM, Aliens Lore Buff, Super Organized, etc.?)

While there is of course more to being a moderator than just reciting server guidelines directly from the website, I’d be confident in saying my knowledge of server rules, marine law, the CO code of conduct, and SOP are pretty finely tuned.

I probably spend more time than I should reading up on CM ban appeals, WL reports, and staff reports, and am always aware of specific rule clarifications or edge-cases when they might appear.

While of course not as stringent as the staff codes of conduct, I have spent just over 12 months as a WL’d CO, a role which is rule-bound to follow all elements of ML without fail. As such, I am already well accustomed to operating according to guidelines of behaviour, and have never had an issue therein.

This all to say that I am qualified, experienced, and capable of making spot-decisions regarding the actions of others, consider intentions, and balance my response in a way that’s fair to all players involved, as well as the health of the round as a whole.

I am well engaged with the tight knit community that exists around my lowpop timezone, and have little trouble conversing with all kinds of people in a mature and friendly manner.

In your opinion, what is the most important quality of a CM-SS13 staff member?

I think the best Moderators understand that, at the end of the day, we’re all here for the community.

The reason we’re called ‘moderators’ and not ‘enforcers’, is because this position doesn’t exist purely to enforce every rule and guideline infraction as they were written. Moderators understand that we are all here to serve as guiding hands for the playerbase, the wider community, and the game itself.

The best Moderators engage with every situation looking for the best outcome for all parties involved, not just to search for punishable rule-breaks, but instead mediating between the situation and the rules.

Making sure that if a player did find themselves breaking a guideline, they’d understand their mistake, understand why it was a mistake, and be given the room to learn from it, rather than just being automatically slapped with some variety of warning.

I believe the most important qualities of a good moderator is the ability to strike a perfect balance between understanding and firm. To always be empathetic to the perspectives of players who may have done the wrong thing, but never be overzealous in their response.

Anything else you want to add?

If they wont ban Samson Jack, I will.

Mandatory Spypig glazing post incoming

Spypig has given a lot of their personal time into this community already- They’ve poured their love into their role as CO, creating some extremely high effort CO background posts (OPERATION BROKEN SKY - Maj. Katrina 'Katya' Hayes ) whilst also maintaining themselves as a CO who is engaging and fun to play with.
They know when to take it easy to avoid burnout.

In addition, they’d invested themselves into a months-long project (Project Sugarwater P2: Comprehensive HM Tutorials by SpypigDev · Pull Request #7555 · cmss13-devs/cmss13 · GitHub) to seriously improve the situation for new players interested in learning how to be a competent medic, being the main author behind the medical tutorial, which is honestly hands-down the most comprehensive one I’ve seen yet. Whilst half of it didn’t really work out (and it must really suck to work it to such a end-state only to end up closing it), they dealt with it like a champ.

However, the quality that makes me believe they’re a good candidate for being staff is their existing attitude to moderation, which focuses less on hard-ass Beck-style rule-lawyering, and more on the actual spirit of the rules. Moderators exist to ensure that the playerbase has the most fun possible by mitigating the un-fun shit some people get up to. From what moderation I’ve seen Spypig do in other spaces, they always communicates to ensure that people understand that their behaviour was wrong, and why. They’re not a hard-ass, nor are they a human doormat- They’re like a genuine Ozzie community policeman.

Guy knows his stuff. Is probably one of the most approachable people that I have met and even a good friend now.
He helped me build the confidence for my CO application and genuinely has one of the best senses for ML which translates well into understanding and moderating server rules.

Dedicated player, cool person to talk to OOC and IC , and just a great candidate all around.
Happy to finally endorse this app because I know you will do great. 1+

Please do be banning Samson first before banning me. He did not pay his Rav Protection coins.

Spypig23 is an old dedicated player who’s been active in the community and contributed a lot. He holds the CO WL, which shows he’s able to take on responsibility and can be trusted. (Btw, check out his writing skills)

He’s helped me out on multiple occasions and is a great person to talk both IC and OOC. Genuinely just a great dude who knows what he’s doing and will be a great addition to staff

-1 spends too much time thinking about CM

Please do be banning Zanfee and Samson first before banning me.
