Final Details:
Why would you like to join the CM-SS13 staff team?
I aspire to be a moderator that can protect a community I adore so much, and hope for the chance to give back to the fine folks that have made CM such an amazing place for so many years.
After being a part of CM for what is quickly approaching a decade, I believe I owe it to everyone who opened their arms to welcome me as a friend (even if I was a mediocre Corpsman at best), and to lend a hand in maintaining a game/community we all hold near and dear.
What makes you a great addition to Staff? (Experienced Tabletop DM, Aliens Lore Buff, Super Organized, etc.?)
While there is of course more to being a moderator than just reciting server guidelines directly from the website, I’d be confident in saying my knowledge of server rules, marine law, the CO code of conduct, and SOP are pretty finely tuned.
I probably spend more time than I should reading up on CM ban appeals, WL reports, and staff reports, and am always aware of specific rule clarifications or edge-cases when they might appear.
While of course not as stringent as the staff codes of conduct, I have spent just over 12 months as a WL’d CO, a role which is rule-bound to follow all elements of ML without fail. As such, I am already well accustomed to operating according to guidelines of behaviour, and have never had an issue therein.
This all to say that I am qualified, experienced, and capable of making spot-decisions regarding the actions of others, consider intentions, and balance my response in a way that’s fair to all players involved, as well as the health of the round as a whole.
I am well engaged with the tight knit community that exists around my lowpop timezone, and have little trouble conversing with all kinds of people in a mature and friendly manner.
In your opinion, what is the most important quality of a CM-SS13 staff member?
I think the best Moderators understand that, at the end of the day, we’re all here for the community.
The reason we’re called ‘moderators’ and not ‘enforcers’, is because this position doesn’t exist purely to enforce every rule and guideline infraction as they were written. Moderators understand that we are all here to serve as guiding hands for the playerbase, the wider community, and the game itself.
The best Moderators engage with every situation looking for the best outcome for all parties involved, not just to search for punishable rule-breaks, but instead mediating between the situation and the rules.
Making sure that if a player did find themselves breaking a guideline, they’d understand their mistake, understand why it was a mistake, and be given the room to learn from it, rather than just being automatically slapped with some variety of warning.
I believe the most important qualities of a good moderator is the ability to strike a perfect balance between understanding and firm. To always be empathetic to the perspectives of players who may have done the wrong thing, but never be overzealous in their response.
Anything else you want to add?
If they wont ban Samson Jack, I will.
