Command Knowledge:

How familiar are you with command positions?

I find myself pretty strongly experienced with command positions. I find myself time and time again, being pulled into CIC. While yes, I am mostly a support player, with a good chunk of my hours being in Synth, Corpsmen and Comtech - I have found the skillets to be easily transferable to leadership roles. The mindsets I’ve developed for command from my awareness of what support roles need, has given me the ability to better adapt, and know how to address the needs of Marines no matter the situation. I’ve also found my time as a mentor, Synth council and staff, has given me the patience with every type of player required to fill the position of CO. To even walk other players through how to improve, while also not making them feel like they are being belittled.

Character Information:

Why did your character decide to become the CO of a ship?

Cynthia was a woman who knew spite better than she knew resolve. Growing up in the dredges of society, she somehow managed to keep up with her formal education. Due to this, she was picked up by a smuggling ship, shipping arms all over the outskirts of UA space. She hated the life, but it was pay - pay she could get by with. Some will say tragedy, Cynthia thought salvation, when the company front the ship had been using became defunct, it prompted the CMB to investigate the ship, and finding its cargo. Cynthia and the rest of the crew, were arrested and put on trial, where because of her circumstance and education was given the option to enlist, rather than spend the rest of her life rotting in a jail. There she found purpose, she was given the option to become an officer, with further training and there she worked her way up to become a Captain.

How did your character attain the position of CO?

How I would describe how Cynthia got the position, it would be a promotion of circumstance. The USCM forces are thin out in the Neroid sector, and Majors even thinner. Because of this, and the failures of Tychon Tackle, Cynthia was allotted the position. She was stationed on a TWE planet for civil protection of Weyland assets and politicians. She never did learn why the TWE could not do the job, but her orders were her orders. She had her doubts at first to take the mantle, but post-CLF attack and a shootout between a unaffiliated gunman. She decided to take the offer,

Provide a short story of your CO.

Command Actions:

When do you believe it’s appropriate to pardon a prisoner?

A pardon is to not be used lightly. A pardon is a tool, like any other - but a tool that shakes the foundations of law. To look a man dead in the eyes and to tell him ‘yes, you are walking free’. There are very few circumstances where a pardon would be needed, as capital crimes - are capital crimes and wouldn’t be granted a pardon. I am a kind soul, so I would look at the intention of the crime before anything else, the motivation. Secondly, I would look at how vital they are for the operation at large. Thirdly, I would look at the MP’s and their side, seeing how the prisoner reacted to the arrest, and the attitudes reflected, as well as context for the crime itself.

Give some examples of when you would or would not use pardon.

I wouldn’t grant a pardon for situations that could’ve been easily resolved by following the law, as well as if the pardon would cause greater risk to the overall security of the ship.

1.) Two marines are having a ‘Chair-duel’ in the middle of brief, MP’s step in to handle the situation. Arresting both parties involved. Due to the nature of the crimes, that being LRP nonsense, and escalation of force. I wouldn’t grant a pardon. The marines knew what they were doing, and they both wouldn’t be placed into a worse position if they simply, complied with the law and didn’t break it for silly nonsense.

2.) In a lot of cases, during lowpop - where there is lack of both MP’s and ship side staff. If a Comtech, was caught hacking doors to get access to a medical vendor to be brought onto the Alamo, and was caught by an MP and subsequently arrested. I would grant a Pardon due to the nature of the crime, and our low numbers requiring them to be present.

3.) It is lowpop, The only CT has cryo’ed however there is an MT awake. Command is aware of the problem and is trying to resolve the matter. The MT breaks into CIC and demands req access, and is subsequently arrested. Command was already aware of the matter, and were in the middle of resolving. The MT was likely to be picked for Req duty already, however placed risk on the security of CIC, I would delegate someone else to take up req, and deny the pardon for the MT.

When do you believe it’s appropriate to use a Battlefield Execution?

A BE, is first and foremost. An example. You have taken another player out of the game, because you judged it necessary. A BE is not something one does as a first course of action. An arrest, detainment. Anything other than putting a bullet into another marines skull would be the better option. The BE is the worst option a CO should take, and is a punishment on themselves for not being able to handle the situation better and should never be met with praise. The BE is if there is risk to life, a threat that topples the command structure, that destroys any and all possible reason. The BE is to be used as a deterrent, to not follow in the footsteps of the dead, and should only be given out to those who wish to trace those footsteps.

The BE is the LRP tool, to ICly respond to things that cannot be ignored. it is a necessary evil.

Give some examples of when you would or would not use Battlefield Execution.

I would BE to situations that can no longer be resolved by just Marine Law and if the person would be a greater risk alive, then dead.

1.) A specialist has initially ignored every order given to them to move to the front line, and has overall been aggressive and threatening towards command. When questioned in person near the front. They raise their rifle aimed at me and attempt to shoot me. There and then would I BE them, for being a detrimental risk to my life, and the operation at large. While specs are vital to the operation. They are only one part of a much larger force.

2.) A CL has collected eggs, and wants to have a hive of his own. It was discovered by MP’s that the liaison has been using humans as hosts. I would work together with my MP’s to respond to the situation and raid his office, to save whoever was captured by the Liaison. I would not BE the Liaison in this raid, as I am working with my MP’s to resolve the situation. I would however, schedule the Liaison for execution, for crimes against humanity.

3.) A marine has repeatedly sexually harassed me, or one of my officers at the front lines. I repeatedly order them to stop, and they do not. I would then BE the person. Due to the nature of the crime, and the over all disgust with the situation. The marine has ignored my command, and has made it clear does not respect boundaries. We are deployed, and for MP’s to make an arrest they would need to make the arrest in a secure area. The only sound thing to do is to make an example out of the marine, that such things are not to be tolerated.

A fine synth, a fine predator, a fine member of staff- considering they have frankly more authority via their staff post, I trust them totally with CO authority.

Always been a pleasure to interact with, even if we do not talk as much as we perhaps used to.

Only thing I disagree with is this. You are in my opinion being over cautious. If they are being a creep, let them have the mateba. That’s not something people should be doing full stop. Its bad enough people do it to synths, let alone a commanding officer. If its on the edge of what’s appropriate perhaps a warning, but if its clear cut I would not let it become repeatedly.

You’re a veteran of the game and we’ve played a lot in the past (albeit I haven’t seen you as much recently). I have full confidence that you’d be a good CO, considering you’re a decent synth and a mod, and I haven’t noticed anything that stood out as a red flag from the rounds where you were grinding XO.

+1, try not to wrench any pipes in CIC

I’ve never seen Westrover Co, probably out of timezones BUT I am a big fan of Grace who’s a solid RPer and a unique character. I imagine as an admin they can be trusted with CO.
